What type of transmission do I have?

Hi all, thanks in advance for your help. I just purchased a 2003 expy and I am doing a trans service but don’t know which transmission is equipped in my vehicle. The guys at the auto parts store says there are two transmissions that come on these trucks.

Where do I find this information. I didn’t see anything in the manual. It’s a 2003 with 5.4 4wheel drive.

If the yellow handle on your transmission dipstick has "Mercon V" in tiny letters you have a 4R70W ( also no drain plug in the 4R70W pan ....) . If the yellow handle on the trans dipstick has just " Mercon " , then you have the 4R100 ( and a drain plug in the pan....) .

The 03 should have a 4r70w or a 4r75w. Only the 1st gens can have a 4r100 unless they slipped a few in on the changeover.

As a side note I'd much rather have the 4r100. Been in the gen 2 Lightning game so long it's what I'm used to. ****** just wont die no matter how I flog it
