Wheel Corrosion?

Hi

I have a 2019 Platinum with the 22's. I noticed on one of my wheels (passenger rear, not that it should matter) the center cap and the wheel itself appears to be corroding. I've read about similar issues on other Ford's but haven't found any threads here with any similar issues.

Has anyone seen this on their 2018+ Expedition?

Seen it on my 2019. I run aftermarket wheels now. eBay has replacements for the OEM center caps. There just plastic and pop-in/off

I’ve got a little bit starting on my 17 with the same caps on my 20” wheels. I wonder if it’s covered under Fords corrosion warranty?

I’ll buy a new cap simply because it’s easier than going to the dealer. My primary concern is that there is a little on the wheel itself surrounding the cap.

whoever rotates your tires/wheels has probably used a screwdriver to pop the center cap off and that's busted the clear coat.

Probably this. I run separate steelies for winter so my 22s have never seen freezing temps or any type of corrosive road material.

Ordinarily plausible but I’ve never even had the tires rotated. Low miles with COVID plus I broke my right leg and didn’t drive for months.
Only 6k on this 2 year old.

I've got it on mine, too, and only rotate my own tires. That said, who removes the center cap to rotate tires???

Have you been to a tire place and looked at the skilled workforce?

Seriously, though, if tires were taken off and need to be balanced, I believe some balancers require the center cap to come off depending on the wheel size. Doesn't seem to be the case, here, though. To me, it looks like it was 'grazed' by something, enough to break the clearcoat and start the old aluminum corrosion going.
