Which 3rd gen should I buy? 2015 / 15,000 or 2017 / 30,000?

I want a 3rd gen to last. I'm offered two- one a '15 with 15,000 miles and one a '17 with 30,000. Same equipment, same price.

Yes, those are the correct mileages and both have a clean history, just low use.

Older with lower miles, or newer with higher? Is there some problem with the '15s or the '17s? Thank you!

If I were here, you would know it !
Can you get an extended warranty on either one ?

If so I would take the one that had that, since any major repairs for either model would be rather expensive....and 15k miles isn't really enough to make that big of a difference, assuming they have been properly maintained...but for the same price, I would probably lean towards the '17...

Both MY's have their own little quirks, but the Cam phasers, timing system and the transmissions are the biggies AFAIK :D

Thanks! No warranties. 2 independent mechanics have looked at them, both say "Liker a new truck".

I’d buy the 17 due to newer sync 3. I wouldn’t pay a mint for either truck. The 2015 is now 10 years old and stuff will need replacement regardless of mileage. The ecoboost engines in both models are considered more reliable than those in 4th gen, and the 6 speed transmissions are very reliable.

I purchased a 2017 XLT with 80k miles in July. 3rd owner. I've been very pleased with it so far albeit I haven't owned it that long. Great acceleration and running smooth, very quiet at idle.

Hi - We had a Gen 1 and a Gen 2. We got great service from both. We never had a Gen 3. We now have a 2019 Gen 4. I would suggest skipping either of the Gen 3's and get a Gen 4. It is a whole new vehicle: new engine, new transmission, new frame, new suspension, new body panels, new seats, new dash, and new electronics. The few extra dollars spent on a newer Expy is a very good investment.

Take the one you can get a bumper-to-bumper extended warranty on. Cam phasers, water pump, etc. are expensive repairs. I usually get a warranty for the longest period of time, since I don't put massive miles on my vehicles.

Absolutely mandatory in todays Ford world. Make sure you get the loaner / rental car option in case it takes weeks to repair.

We purchased our '17 in 2020 with just over 100K miles on the clock. Super clean and very well maintained. Only issues after ~60,000 miles have been the vacuum pump gasket (changed the pump out at the same time as it's a b*tch to get to) and a new OEM ignition coil as the original was starting to fail. Other than that, oil changes at 3500-4000 miles, brakes, coolant replace and tires.

As stated earlier, the Sync 3 is a plus.
