First time owner of a turbo charger engine. When I accelerate from a stop, I can hear a whistling/whirring or whining noise. I've read this could be the turbo charged engine making this noise. Do others hear the same noise? It is only obvious if I have windows rolled down and radio turned off.

Turbos make noise, no doubt about it. How loud? How whirring is it? A certain amount of noise is normal. I drive a 3.5 turbo Transit daily, it whirls and makes racket, but nothing loud. You might want to have yours checked out if you suspect out of the ordinary.

The gen 2 3.5 is much louder externally than the gen 1, enough that I actually enjoy it and keep the windows down.

I’ve yet to hear this in my Navigator, and it’s not from a lack of trying. There must be some serious noise insulation in that truck.

I can only hear the noise with my windows down. If windows are up it is barely noticable. If radio is on then I can't hear it at all.
Sounds like whistling is normal, but I'll have the dealer check it out when I take her in for first oil change.

Turbos or blowers make noise. If you want total silence buy an Acura or maybe a Jaguar. Anytime your ramming air through not 1 but 2 hair dryers , called turbos their gonna pump air and make a little noise. The Lincoln version is a little quieter due to extra padding, and sound proofing. Until Ford/Lincoln brings back a V8 like the Coyote 5.0 or bigger, Like Chevy's 6.2, deal with a little whirling. My Chariot fleet that I drive have some of the early Ryder rental vs Ford dealer vehicles with the faster 310 hp turbo models. Huge difference on power/ torque. Unfortunately all the new ones are non turbo, about 95 hp less. I like the whirling sound and pull of torque. But if you don't, you either put up with it or trade it for the competition.

A year ago I rented a 2017 expedition Max for a trip to Yellowstone and I didn't notice any turbo noise whatsoever. The 2018s seem much louder with the new engines. I don't have any issues with the noise. Just wanted to make sure it was normal.
