So I know the expy usually weighs a little less than 3 tons, I have an XLT so im thinking 5800lbs. Im thinking i need a 12,000lb winch to be able to recover while mudding. Does anyone here have a winch, and if so what is the size? Thanks in advance

i have an 8k winch and it does ok. i plan on moving that to the rear and putting a 9.5 or larger up front. you can always use snatch blocks as well to almost double the pulling power. just a thought if you dont wanna get a 12k. if you plan on getting into the deep mud where you might be up to your frame or better, then you will want at least a 9.5 and some snatch blocks. i am currently running mine with the warn hidden winch mount so cant really go bigger than the 9.5 without a little modification to the bumper from what i understand. warn makes a transformer grille guard that can house your winch as well, but it is a little pricey.

Thanks, that helps a lot. Yeah I'm by no means a hardcore mudder, me and my friends only go out twice a week or so to an backwoods area where I live. I might hit some trails in the future, but all i need is a winch to help me, or my jeep friends get out. Nice advice

if that is all it is, i would get the 9.5, hidden winch mount, and some snatch blocks to increase the pulling power of the winch. that is probably your best bet. gonna need a 2nd battery though if you plan on using the winch. she draws a lot of power. run a dual battery setup with a battery isolator and you will be just fine.
