general rule of thumb is pick a winch 1.5 times the weight of what you are pulling. and yes, the more line on the drum, the less pulling power you have, unless you get snatch blocks. i wouldnt get a warn cuz you are just pulling your trailer up the beach. dont waste your money. get a cheap 3k winch and that should work just fine. xrc also makes a pretty cheap winch.
