I have Fords extended Warranty. Window froze in place during the last cold spell. Waited until the temp was over freezing for a few hours before trying it again.

Now the window doesn't move and there are crunching noises coming from the door.

Does the Ford extended warranty cover windows. I have a friend mechanic that can do it, but he will have to buy parts(I assume from the noise). If the warranty covers it I can just have the dealer do it.

Dealer won't give me a clue on whether its covered or not, I didn't expect a "yes its covered" but he wouldn't give me any... if this then yes, if this then no.

Call Ford ESP Administration at 800-521-4144. They can answer any and all warranty questions.

I will caution you that the Catch 22 with Ford's extended warranty is that diagnosis fee is only covered if the repair is covered. So you take the vehicle to Ford and ask for a diagnosis. If the diagnosis reveals a covered problem, then both the repair and diagnosis fees are covered. However, if the diagnosis reveals a non-covered problem, even if you decide not to proceed with the repair you are on the hook for the diagnosis fee.

Please keep us updated on this as my wife has a grinding noise in her Mazda's window as well, which I believe to be debris or a broken piece of something caught in the path of the window.

I was hoping this wasn't the case. I have no intention of the dealer doing this or any work not under warranty.

I'll call the number and ask. If I am not reasonably assured it will be covered, I will do it myself or have my mechanic buddy do it.

Ill post results, I can't call from work.

thanks for the info. much appreciated.

This has been my approach as well. I called Ford ESP with a bunch of "what ifs" before I took the car into the dealer and only had them look into issues I was reasonably sure would be covered in full.

In fact, since the deductible is per visit rather than per repair, I made a list of the little issues I had been having and then spent $100 on a full once-over from an independent mechanic I trust before I went to the dealership. In the end I spent $200 for $3K worth of parts/labor.

Ford ESP Administration said if its the motor or regulator it will be covered. I have a couple of other issues so I will probably keep my appointment and see if they are on the up and up. Its making the same noise in all the videos that point to the regulator.

After some research it sounds like the aftermarket regulators work better then the OEM, Im still temped to do it myself. But with multiple (possible warranty) issues I 'll have them look at it.

Thanks for all the info, I will update as to whether they cover the repair.

Dealer took care of the regulator under warranty, fixed a few small issues, not under warranty. Rattle on acceleration was fixed with a clamp and a new knob in the rear console. Window is working, paid a few bucks plus the deductible.
