I have a 2008 Limited that does one swipe of the front wipers on startup. This only seems to occur when the temp is in the 30's and just once on initial startup for the day. I couldn't find anything in the manual about moisture sensitive wipers and it does it with or without dew on the windshield. Anybody else see this happening?

Hahaha, Finally someone else posts this question. Mine does the same thing. I thought I was going crazy when it first happened. Same thing though, only when cold, one swipe, first start of the day. I've learned to live with it. I figured seeing as it doesnt do it all the time, it would NEVER do it for the dealer and they would send me on my way with the "functions as normal" line.
My guess would be maybe the cold causes the battery to discharge slightly and PCM does a slight reboot. In fact I've noticed that sometimes my factory NAV does a reset of sorts. I will lose my previous destinations and speed volume setting but nothing else.

FREEWAY, that was the first thing I looked at when it happened but the wipers were set to off.

maybe it is a factory setting based on temp. to wipe away snow, etc. i know some fords have an extra wipe feature on windshield washing. it waits a second or two and wipes again. just a thought.

First thing I checked was the wiper on/off settings and both front and back were off. The owners manual says that the wipers do an extra swipe after using the windshield washers to get rid of the last bit of water, but in this case the washers aren't being used. I also went through the operator controlled settings and didn't see anything about wipers. It's strange that it would do it only under certain conditions. It's not a big deal this time of year but it could be an issue during a Minnesota winter.

I have a 2008 XLT and the wipers do the same one-swipe-at-initial-startup. Was there any answer to this? I do not want this to happen in the winter....where I live snow or ice can freeze the blades to the windshield. I will have to remember to unfreeze them everytime before starting the car.

There are a few issues with the rain sensitive wiper system. If all of you that are having this problem also have that system, I would bet it is related to the sensor.

Hi, huntboatdd781.

I recommend taking your Expedition to your dealer to have them diagnose this concern. They'll be able to answer any questions you might have about your wipers!
