I have a 2004 Eddie Bauer Expedition. 264,900 miles. The 5.4L engine is running like a champ. I bought the truck last year from my brother in law, who had used it for a few years to pull a travel trailer for vacations for the family, etc.
The truck had a new transmission installed in the spring of 2019. It had new tires installed in the fall of 2019. This was just before I bought it. The tires are 10-ply tires. VERY loud. But they'll drive over almost anything.
Since I bought it, I have replaced the battery and the Engine Control Module. A hose to the EGR also blew, leading to a P1405 code. The EGM replacement and hose repairs were done together two days ago.
The AC is cold, the sound system is excellent, braking is great, and it got me from NC to Texas without a problem.
The truck burns almost no oil, if any. It also leaks no oil. I run high mileage synthetic blend oil and use regular 87 gas. I add Lucas upper cylinder treatment to the gas every other week. It had a noticable gas mileage improving with it, going from about 16 mpg to about 17.9 mpg. On the highway I have actually gotten 18.2 mpg before. A fleet mechanic years ago told me they use Lucas upper cylinder treatment in their fleet trucks every 30 days or every other week.
All the gauges and readings are right where they should be.
Issues? 1) Slight shudder felt in the steering wheel. It doesn't seem to actually shudder the truck, though, and it's very mild. 2) The volume control doesn't work well in the front so you have to reach around to the rear controls in the back to turn the sound system down. 3) The DVD system in the back won't lock in the UP position. The system itself works FINE. 4) Some cosmetic issues, interior and exterior but overall looks very good.
I am not a mechanic and I am not that mechanically inclined. But this truck is running strong and mechanics have said it's a great truck and it should remain strong for a long time with normal service. I had one mechanic offer to buy it from me.
I seriously hope to get another 100,000 miles out of this truck. It's been VERY reliable and it's great both off and on road.
