Sure they fail occasionally. We'd need a bit more info to help though.

Two have failed on my sons 2000 Ranger over the 10yrs we've had it, the first was failed when we bought it. I think the trans mounted speed sensors fail less often compared to the axle mounted ones, like the Ranger.

What symptoms have you seen? Any DTC's?

If you have a rear diff mounted speed sensor you might be able to pull it out and clean it and resolve the issue? I've never had that help, but I change gear oil frequently. I suspect if it might if the gear oil is not changed often or there is significant wear in the differential leaving metal and other crud on the sensor.
