I have a '00 with the 4.6L with 288,000 miles. Yes, that's right! She's been a good girl. Solid work truck, still gets 15/18 mpg. Have always kept up the service.

My problem: for a while now she stalls or at least wants to stall then sometimes surges after the close stall when I come to a complete stop, hot or cold, full tank or not. She's fine anytime else. Any suggestions? What's causing this?

Latest work: new EGR valve, new EGR vaccum regulator, new DPFE sensor (all to finally fix CEL). Vaccum lines good, rubber good. K&N filter, kept clean & oiled. New fuel filter last year, along with plugs and wires. All this done and still have the problem THANKS!!!

Welcome aboard.
Sounds like a classic idle air controller replacement would be my bet.
you can pull off, clean w/ brake cleaner and reinstall or put in a new one; not very expensive.

Awesome; thanks! In my research, that's the #1 suggestion so far. Others are:

2. TPS
3. The check valve in vaccum line to brake booster
4. Fuel pressure regulator

I'll try cleaning the TPS first thing in the morning and post my findings.

Sunny Saturday finally! Found the hose connecting the PCV to the plastic tube was a jagged piece of water hose...WTF?? Fiddled with it a bit, tightening it up. Then I called around for the hose parts in town...NAPA, Advance, O'Reilley's, AutoZone...NOBODY has ANY PCV components in stock all of a sudden.

Any suggestions for good places to order online before I start hunting?

I agree, I went to the stealership to pick up my new PVC fitting. Cost was a bit much but it was nice to have something specifically shaped to fit in there without touching anything hot or problematic.

Found one from "Ford Parts Depot" store on eBay, $44.96 with shipping. It's Ford's OEM store, so it should be authentic.

Results to come soon...

While waiting for the PCV elbow to get here, I removed the negative battery cable, cleaned the mass air flow sensor (MAF) with contact cleaner, and let the computer recalibrate...MAGIC!

Only thing is, it's fixed only 90% of the "close stalls". It's still happenning once or twice daily, as I come to a stop.

It has to be faulty...right?

SUMBITCH! The part sent (F85Z6C324AA) was NOT like the picture! Hit this link to see item on eBay:

F85Z6C324CA Ford Connector | eBay

They sent one for later year models, which has the additional cold air intake tube. NOW I see that they have both parts with the SAME part number.

Aint nobody got time fo dat!!!

I just found this elbow on eBay, which is what I actually have:

Emission Hose PCV Elbow Fits 99 00 Ford Expedition F Series Trucks | eBay

Getting an RMA from Ford now. Last time I trust them. Results to come!

The stalls have returned, so I'm replacing the MAF sensor. New in box on eBay was $59.85. Went ahead with a Gotts Mod while I had the air box apart. NOW let's see................

Twenty-four hours in, it seems to have solved it for the most part. IAC will be next if it doesnt really smooth out like I want.

It's two months later now, and since the tach still wants to dip and stall when slowing I got a new IAC from AutoZone. About to install it now...

Not too difficult, and the old one metered 0 ohms. The Chilton said it should read between 6 to 13. Cashed.

Preliminary drives around the neighborhood are steady. We'll see!
