I bought 99 Expedition eddie bauer AWD4.

Long story someone swap rims from factory I believe 265/70/17 to 255/70/16 so it pretty TINY tires that are pretty overload look like it flat when I am tow boat behind.

I notice that speedometer read higher like 4 mph off. I only want put little bigger tires maybe 1" to see 1-2 mph off. Would like little heavy duty tires that rated 50 psi so I can tow heavy trailer without feeling squirmy down road.

And I am concern about MPG so I would like find highway tires that doesn't affect mileage. I am average 15-16 in city with short trips. Long Highway with hills I got 18.73 mpg at 60 mph.

Thank
Sorry for my bad grammar.

You would be fine. I went from a 31" tire to a 33" and saw relatively little fuel economy decrease, and my currrent tires are substantially more heavy. My rims are 16" rims, and I used to have 265/75's on them before the 285's. Cooper A/T3's are supposed to be a decent tire. My buddy just got a set and he likes them. Otherwise the S/T Maxx's that I have are awesome as well, but a bit spendy and they are pretty stiff tires.

As for the speedo, if you want to correct it you can do 265/75/R16 size tires and it should be pretty close to correct. Mine is about 6 mph slow when doing highway speeds.

Both tire sizes were available on the 1999 expedition according to the tire dealers.

You can always go to a tire with a higher load rating if your concerned with them while towing. I personally never had issues towing my boat or car with stock 255/70-16's that came on mine. Do you know the tongue weight on the boat/ trailer? I believe it should between 10 to 15% of trailer weight loaded.

How do you know your fuel milage if the speedo is off ? Did you correct for it because if your speedo is off so is your odometer readings by the same percentage.

Tom has a good point. For every 100 miles I go my odometer only reads about 97 traveled if I remember the math right.

You know highway's marker with mile? I track. It almost TIE at 20 miles later probability .5 higher.

The tires look FLAT when I loaded 1000 pound stuff in cargo. They only can hold 32 MAX AIR PSI. My friend who was behind me could see tire's sidewall flex on curve. I don't ever drive like *******. I drive like granny and gently. Only keep rpm under 2K.

I would like just skinny tires like 235/85/16 but it too TALL for me.

I would stay around the 265 range. Find a set of tires with a higher load range. Mine are load range E and they can air up to around 50psi. Talk to some tire shops to get an idea of what kind of tire you are looking for.

What about 265/70/R16 they look .50" bigger than 255/70/16

a 238/85 16 is the same height as a 265/75 16 FYI

I am concern about mileage from light tires to heavy tires. Won't it affect or just little?

Thank for picture.

I went to belle and discount tires. Long story Discount tire's manager say I really can't put 265/75/16 on rear axle. He say it going be dangerous since their policy is #1 SAFETY.

They end gave me WAY BEST QUOTE I couldn't believe. $487 for 4 Cooper Disccoverer HTP 255/70/16. Belle tires was $800.

It little slightly heavy duty just 45 MAX PSI.

Does anyone have good experience with Cooper discoverer HTP?

and why the heck would that tire size be unsafe, assuming the load rating of the tire was acceptable for the truck???

Sounds like a crock of crap to me, unless that is a different size than you would be running on the front. with 4wd you will want to run the same tire size on all 4 wheels, or you will end up doing really bad things to the drivetrain...

I know at Mills Fleet Farm where I work, they will not put any size tire on the truck other than the original factory size, which I believe was 255's. The thinking is if you manage to roll your truck, they do not want a lawsuit saying they are responsible by putting on too big of a tire. I had this problem with my tires. I had to bring just the rims to them in my dad's truck, have them mount my 285's, and then bring the rims home and mount the tires to the truck myself. As long as they are not putting on the tires to the vehicle, they cannot be held liable for any accidents. It's all just legal BS.

oh yeah if your going to upsize you must replace all 4, i didnt think you were trying to run 255/70s on the front and 265/70s on the rear.

but 265's were a factory option so there is no reason they should not allow you to buy 4 265/75 16's.

hell sears put my winter set on, 265/70 16's without question.

Agreed, I ran 33's on the rear for about a month (had to buy the tires two per paycheck) with the old 31's on the front and I think it messed with the computer a bit. The A4WD definitely was upset. As soon as I put it in 2H, it worked pretty good, but I definitely will not do that again. Buy 4 of the same size tire.

he has a 99 so he has no 2wd setting. it would cause all kinds of issues with the A4wd.

It stuck in 4wd that reason I remove driveshaft when I got it. What funny it was BRAND NEW driveshaft on there. Everytime I try take off it jam in 4wd pop.

I going keep research on what good tires that great for highway.
