I just bought a 2003 Navigator. It has the 2h, a4wd, 4h, & 4lo switch.

If I switch it to a4wd it doesn't do anything. When I go to 4hi or 4lo I can hear a relay click but no lights on dash come on and I don't feel anything like it engages. ( my 98 you could feel it engage) when I turn key in truck the 4hi and 4lo bulbs light up so I know they arnt burnt out. But I don't see a a4wd light on dash.

Am I doin something wrong. I tried in neutral and park. I pulled forward and reverse while it was turned to 4wd and nothing.

What are some things I can check. Thank You

What's that. I literally just picked this Navigator up last night. So I'm not familiar with it.

So far only problems I found are no 4wd and no cruise. Which he said he replaced brake booster so I'm goin to make sure everything got plugged in.

But I'm just trying to find out why I hear a relay with the turn of the 4wd switch but nothing happens. No lights on dash light up.

I'll look but I don't see why they would. It has the 2h selector so its not full time awd.

Hello 96mustangV6,

Congrats on your new Navigator. I recommend bringing it to your local dealer for diagnosis/repair. You may locate one here.

Let me know if you have questions.

when I checked the wiring diagrams for both the 4wd and cruise I notice that the ABS Control Module is common to both circuits. Not saying that is your problem but its possible it could affect both the 4wd and the cruise

Although you have it in 2WD.. The transfer case will still engage and the front drive shaft will still spin.. Having the dial in 2WD just prevents the IWE solenoid from releasing vacuum to the hub actuators... This prevents the need for the drive shaft and transfer case to spinup at freeway speeds for AWD functionality..

Performing the brown wire mode, supposedly cuts the hybrid 2WD mode into a true 2wd mode, by totally disengaging the TC and not spin the front drive shaft... Some say this saves on MPH and power.. Also by cutting the wire totally, the TC will always be disengaged..

As for your issue.. dunno.. just chumming the waters until we hit on something :)

Well went out today and the 4wd is working now. Can even feel it go in. So I think I'm pull actuator off and clean it. Wondering if its just real dirty and needs lubed up. But lights lit up and all.

Now time to figure out the cruise.

If the cruise light comes on in the cluster but it will not set, there is a disengagement switch that contacts the brake pedal. If it isn't the system will think you have your foot on the brake and not engage. I know on mine they had to replace the steering wheel switches because it wasn't making contact.

The light doesn't even come on when I press on. The media switches all work. But cruise could all be wore out. The brake booster was replaced before I bought it so should there anything I need to check. I check under hood to make sure everything is plugged in. Not real sure.

They're definitely connected. Auto 4WD uses the rear ABS speed sensors to detect when the rear loses traction and the front needs to engage.

The light only comes on only when the system is engaged, If the brake pedal switch is open the light will never come on. The switch is the easiest to check visually if it is pushed up in the mount and the button isn't touching the brake pedal arm the system will not engage and the light will not come on. Of course check the fuses also.

Before you start looking at fuses and relays, does the ABS light come on? Check to make sure it's lighting up when you turn your car on and that it extinguishes after it's started. If it never comes on your bulb could be burnt out from a constant problem that never got fixed. I believe if ABS is having problems, it won't let you engage cruise control. I believe I'm having a similar issue with my '02 Tahoe.

Thanks guys for the help. Havant had much time to look at it. Clean in the 98 Navi up and sell in it. Havant had time to play with the 03. But I'll start check in stuff and report back. Thanks.

Did I miss something here How would a burnt out bulb prevent the cruise from not working??? Although checking the bulbs before starting the engine is always a good thing.
