ive heard of this issue with f150s as well...if you havent used 4x4 in a while, sometimes the shift motor will get stuck. try tapping it with a hammer lightly. usually thats enough to break it free and allow it to move. i got my 98 to work again after doing that. and i just switched it in 4x4 once every couple of weeks and i never had an issue with it.

Thanks Snowboarder. I used it a few months ago to pull stumps, but haven't since then. With all the rain and ponding, wanted the extra reassurance of 4AWD. Will post results when I figure it out...just odd that nothing happens when turning the roatary switch at all....my first sense of no power....still troubleshooting.

Back in Business

Today was pleasently warmer and no more rain.
I pulled every fuse in the passenger compartment and under the hood too. All fuses inside were good-to-go. Fuses under the hood had never been removed for any reason whatsoever. A few of the mega-fuses had some white powder on them is the best way I can describe it....took the fine file to them and replaced.

Pulled out the ramps to drive up and start searching underneath and just before shifting into Drive, I rotated the know to 4AWD and shazam the light illuminated and I heard the solenoid engage. Took it a step further to 4HI and same thing, then 4LO and it too engaged. Drove back/forth cycling two times in all ranges and seems like it is fixed.

Must have been one of the fuses. I have added it to my once a fill-up things to do to ensure it continues to operate correctly.

Glad you got it working also thanks for the update its always nice to know the results
when you get a chance and the weather gets nice take some electronic spray cleaner and re-pull the fuses and spay the contact area as that may help if there is any other corrosion build up

you may also want to put a coating of Noalox on the contact area you can get some at Home Depot, Lowes or an Electrical Supply House

That didn't help me. Im going to replace the shift motor and pray.
