Has anyone had a similar issue; when I engage 4wd (either in auto or 4 high) when doing even the slightest turn of the wheel there is a clunking sound and it seems that the front is binding and fighting the rear almost like there is a brake locked up on one wheel. This does not happen when only in 2wd My local dealer has changed transfer case oil and know is going to take transfer case apart but they do not have an idea of a problem. Had to fight to get to this point so was wondering if anyone else has experienced this.
Thanks

Sounds like a differential issue more than a transfer case problem. Have the dealer check the front differential, make sure it has plenty of synthetic fluid.

Hi gallowjh,

I'd like to loop in your regional customer service manager, who'll work with your dealer to find a solution. Please send me a PM with your full name, best daytime phone number, VIN, mileage, and servicing dealership (+ appt. time).

VTfireftr - did you get a resolution to this? I have the same issue when first starting off. Once I get going, though, I'm not noticing it.

Hey tojohnso,

What's the model year of your Expedition? Let me know and I'll look into available options.

Hello gallowjh,

I have the same problem with my 2011 Expedition EL XLT 4x4. And my local dealer try to convince me it's a normal thing in this SUV. I think it's factory problem but I don't know how to fix it.

Thanks,

I do not have this problem when the truck is in 4 Auto, but when in 4 High if I am on dry pavement there is a binding sound coming from the front tires whenever I am turning (obviously because it IS binding).

I have never had this problem in 4 Auto though.

I hope you don't do that too often!

haha no, the only time I have done it was when I was attempting to back a trailer into my back yard and forgot to turn it off before I pulled back onto the street. One of those moments when you're like "whats that sound... oh yah I'm still in 4 High."
