Check a local 4x4 store, if possible. Maybe an independent suspension/tire shop, like Les Schwab. Not sure if those exist outside of the west coast.

I wouldn't do 35's unless you plan on doing a lot of work, you can get a 3" body list and put 35's on but then your stressing a lot of parts and you will wipe out the rear diff and possibly your transfer / transmission I have 285 75 16 (33's) on stock suspension. just giving you a heads up.

You've got 285/75/16 with no lift or leveling kit? did you have any rubbing or interference with those or is it alright? I want 33's on my 06, 285/70/17 but thought I will need at least a 2" front leveling kit?

Nope all bone stock, no lift, no spacers, nothing. I have no rubbing at all even at full lock, Idk about an 06 though but mine is a 2002 I'm not sure how much they changed. I would go to the Gen 2 section and ask around to see what tire size people have put on their expys. but you should fit 285's no prob

What do you mean wipe out the rear diff? My parents just gave me their 98, and it is equipped with 35" tires. Should I be worried?

Gen 1's are a different animal. I wouldn't worry.
Gen 2 switched to 4 wheel independent suspension.

They might have switched to independent but the gear ratio is not meant to handle 35" tires

Roger that. It's had 35's on it for years, and the parents haven't had an issue with it, of course they never took it wheeling either. It is a slug with the stock gears though. That is on my to-do list.

Dunno.. Running 35s x 13s with no gearing issues, except for gas.. I seem to blow the controller arm bushings more than anything else..

Well that would all depend on the vehicle and its options. My folk's 04 has the same 3.73 rear gears that my truck does and they would handle 35's fine. I would not put 35's on that truck just cause I do not think it is as durable and truck-like as the 1st gens, but I don't think the weak point would be gears. I would be more worried about the suspension and ball joints in the back personally.

waylap i was able to run 285/70/17 on a stock 4x4 with a little bit of rubbing if i turned will to far. And rigel1 there is someone on here that is running 35's on a 3/2 spacer lift. Had to remove running boards.
