LOTS of miles !!

I have a 2011 EL which is paid off and with 87,577 miles on the clock. I also have a 2005 expedition with about 100K on the clock, also paid off.

I recently switched companies and as a result I hAve been driving around 700mikes a week in my 2011. 95% highway, 50-60% cruise control at 70. Consistently 15.4MPG.

I'm thinking of trading in the '05 for a cheaper commuter car. However, I don't know if anything would hold up like my expedition when it comes to that kind of miles. Also, with no payments on the EL, would I be able to find anything cheaper (with payments)? I'm thinking that I might save on maintenance/repair costs..?

Any thoughts?

payments + gas = more than gas in expedition...that many miles they have to be highway so you can better your mpg's with a few mods...you wont get 30 mpg but better than now...find a good reliable used car and if you can afford a low payment do that and keep the expedition...one of them at least...which ever u like best

Which mods?

We spent so much money in repairs in our '05 and I am worried that that will also start happening to the '11.

I went through something similar last year. I got a new job and the commute was a little longer. We looked at some commuter cars and the payment, insurance, and gas for the commuter car would've been a little less than what I was spending on gas for the Expy. And it would've saved the miles on the Expy. I ended up leaving that job so the Expy is still my daily.

Gotts Mod for intake or CAI...exhaust...programmer...e-fans...again...it will help improve and i have all but the e-fans and im in the 20s for hwy mpg...e-fan will be next...

the biggest repair costs has been rear air suspension which I have switched to coil suspension. Other then that I have repaired front and rear wiper motors front axle seal and a pulley. It has not been that bad. I do have a 2015 on order I hope its as good as my 2012. One surprise is not a single repair to my power running boards

Yes but you either have to lose your spare tire or have an exhaust shop that can get creative in plumbing the pipe to the drivers side.
