You should get at least battery voltage on the output stud of the alternator. If you aren't then there is a break in the wire between the alternator and the battery. Usually there is a fusible link or mega fuse in-line.

I undone the hot terminal on the battery then checked all the connections from the alternator to the relay on OLMS and was getting a reading through all.

Then i connected the hot back and tryed to get a reading from the post on the alternator and coundnt get one. not sure whats up with that? Why would the megafuse read through OLMS but not voltage from the battery?

Depends on what the readings were when the meter was set on "ohms". Where did you connect the meter when you were checking voltage on the output stud?

when i checked the voltage i had it set on 200 and i put the red wire on the big wire stud. on the OLMS i had it on 200 also. the other setting are 2000k, 200k, 20k, then 2000, etc. i think it measures resistance through the wire in hundreds or thousands. like i say i have some understanding but not much. I am somewhat of an electrician as far as wireing houses and such... not real familiar with DC...

Ohms readings should be taken with the power disconnected or you will pop the fuse in the meter. Voltage readings are taken with the circuit energized.
Meter set on volts dc, red lead on the stud, black lead on ground or battery neg post. You should see battery voltage with the engine off. Engine running will show output voltage.
What meter are you using? I'll see if I can find the user manual.

No, i understand how the meter works. Just cant understand how the meter is seeing a circut through the wires on OHMS with the hot disconnected, and not reading voltage through the same wire when i connect the hot terminal. (Example): On OLMS, from the post on the alternator i get a circut to the megafuse, then through the megafuse. But when i switch to DC volts and put the hot terminal on the battery and put the red wire from the meter on the alternator and ground the black on the motor, negative terminal, etc, i get no voltage reading from the battery to the alternator. SMH. Im stumped...
im thinking i should be reading voltage on the alternator comming from the battery?

Meter may not be reading dcv - check battery voltage to prove
Check range scale if not auto ranging. Should be @20v.

Hey "Stamp11127", just wanted to let you know I got the truck up and running. The starter Relay, Alternator, and one of the 175 megafuses were blown. Im still waiting to see if the battery holds up lol. Man, something must have really been grounded to cause it to fry all that! I got to go out this morning and get some tires as mine are slicker than a creek minnow.
I really appreciate all the time and effort you put into helping me bro. It means alot. Stay cool my friend and Thanks once again. "Wick".........
