Here's one for you - I am swapping out the 20s (275/55) for some 18s with all terrian tires since I want some sidewalls for rougher service. Any idea how large a tire I can put on the standard 18 inch wheels without a lift?

The factory 18s are 255/70.

This is for a 2007 EL EB.

Any thoughts or experiences would be appreciated!

I was thinking of doing the same thing. Soon after my wife fiinishes destroying my 22" Dale Jrs. Are you going with a 18" aftermarket rim or Expedition 18" rim?

18s for 20s Tire sizes

I picked up a set of OEM 18s off ebay. They have the Pirelli STR tires. If they had the ATRs, I would have bolted them right on! I'm wondering if 265/60 or 65 or 275/60s woudl fit (yes I know it would throw off the speedo).

I picked up my Expy with 45000 miles on it in March (when the SUV market was dead). The wheels were pretty dinged up when I got it. The previous owner caught curbs and so on, you can see where the bead and "chrome cladding" is damaged in spots.

I work in construction so my Expy is an sUv (emphasis on the U). In my opinion, the "chrome clad" 20s are not a good choice for anyone that actually ventures off road and not a highway tow vehicle.

You would think if your paying alot for a limited you could get a "true" chrome rim. I chose the XLT due the fact that Im most likely going to trade up to a newer model in a year or two. Hopefully a 2011. When I researched the Crome Clad and went to the dealership and notice it was kind not worth it. Plus I had planned on getting new rims anyway. But now I want to upgrade to All-Terrain like you. I have a link to a 2007 that has larger tires. I dont think it is lifted. Or it could be. http://truckin.automotive.com/54867/0709tr-2007-ford-expedition-el/index.html

Great link!

I believe that Expy is lifted so I can safely say 33s won't work.

I do like that look though. The 20s look right at home there.

I have an 04 expedition EB and have the OE 20s with 275 60 20 toyo open country ATs. They do fit my 2wd without a lift. I had to trim a small amount inside the fender liners to get full lock. These are 33's and would cost less than swapping out for 18's to get the additional sidewall.
