hope this is the right section for my question.

As title says; does the 3.73 limited slip gear option in the 2015-2016 line of expeditions still have traction control?

I ask because the "build your own" option on the ford website lists either the 3.15 gears and traction control OR the 3.73 limited slip option which is a $320 upgrade.

I would think the 3.73's with LS would still have traction control as that is a computer and brake programming feature. Not the LS gear box itself.

I read a lot of threads on other forums, mainly F-150 threads, saying that the 3.73 is preferred for towing and getting around town as the engine has to work less to get up and go. Also read that the highway driving MPG's really do not suffer that much with the 3.73 due to the 6 spd tranny and well designed ecoboost.

I really do not see myself hauling a lot with the new SUV, but you never know. We live in flat ass SE Texas so no hill climbing either. But I still think we'll prefer the 3.73's as my wife and I are both spirited drivers and will really like better pickup acceleration. Road trips will be rare, one or two a year, and they're never more than 300 miles anyways. So we're still not real concerned with the 3.15 gas savings even as minimal as they may be.

But I am a firm believer in traction control since a time my 6.2L GMC Sierra got pretty squirrely on a rainy night with my 1 yr old daughter in the back car seat. The traction control bogged everything down and kept us in the lines and out of the ditch. Not long after that my wife had a slip or two as well that she felt the truck handled very well due to traction control. I have since swapped to Terra grappler tires and have not had anymore traction issues in case anyone was wondering. But nonetheless, we're really hoping the 3.73's in the Expedition still have traction control.

I have a 2016 Expedition with the 3.73 LS in it. I don't do a lot of towing with this as we have a dually for towing. I am glad I went that route. I wanted the LS more than the gear ratio and was a little concerned that it would really ding the fuel mileage but so far so good. I run anywhere between 14 and 20 mpg and am not a conservative driver. One thing I have noticed is it gets a lot better mileage doing the speed limit and not running 80. The are a big vehicle and push a lot of air so that is to be expected. I didn't buy it for the fuel mileage anyway. We hunt and farm so mine does get taken off road on a regular basis. The traction control does kick in both in two wheel drive and 4 wheel. It's really amazing how well this thing does in two wheel drive, even with the stock street tires that came on it. Mine has the 22 inch wheels which I wasn't thrilled about just for tire selection and cost of the tires in that size. Bottom line is if you want better acceleration and better towing go with the 3.73. If fuel mileage is your goal, go with the 3.15. Unfortunately you are the only one that can answer that. Either way I think you will enjoy it. The Ecoboost is a great engine. My wife has one in her 2012 F-150 and we've had great luck with it. You wouldn't know there wasn't a V-8 in there.

Thanks for the reply. We went the 3.73 route and very pleased we did. Picked it up about two weeks ago.
I drove my parents Navigator with 4.10's before we received our expedition and I was quite impressed with it's performance which made me even happier we ordered the 3.73's.

Not to cause a big debate, especially since I have not conducted a true door to door test run, but the seat of the pants tells me that my 2011 Sierra crew cab with 6.2L V8, 3.42 rear end, a few bolt on mods and a new tune has got more balls, power, torque, strength, acceleration (however you want to describe it), than the expedition. The wife agrees too without question. But none the less this expy is a fabulous vehicle and impressive in its own ways. Very happy with it. I hear these ecoboosts are just begging to be retuned, so much untapped power in there. Maybe one day we'll dive off into modding it. But for now it'll be used primarily for its true purpose of soccer mom/ grocery getter car. And likewise, we did not make this purchase looking for good gas mileage either, Haha.
