Ive got a 2010 expedition el xlt. Ive made some efforts over the last couple years to find a replacement storage tray/shelf that goes behind the 3rd row for a project I'd like to try. Anyone have any ideas on where i can find one?

Does Ford still make the part?

Good question. I would imagine so, but not sure. A junkyard is really where id like to find one because of cost. The cheaper the better because the project is going to involve cutting it up. Basically i want to cut out most of the inside and layer with foam for a secret compartment. I havent found any other affordable ways to store items of a certain lead throwing nature in a covert way

And will you be making "runs" between Mexico and the US? LOL, I've been watching too many episodes of Narcos!

If that were the case id need to connect with a fiberglass guy or custom body shop. Do you know how much empty space there is behind the plastic in the back on each side?! If i had a way to cut out a hatch or door and make it look like it was meant to be there, id do that! I had to remove those panels for some work on the vehicle and there is a ton of dead space. Would make for cool storage compartments if i had a way to mod it without it looking like i took a hacksaw or jigsaw or harbor freight multi-tool to it

Wow, I didn't know there was so much empty space in there. There must be a company or a shop that specializes in adding factory finished compartments inside vehicles. There's got to be!

There are ones that do a lock box that mounts in the center console and one that makes locking sliding drawers that mount in the back, but they are crazy money and take up a munch of space because they sit on top of the spare tire kit and that folding shelf

3rd row cup holders have a lot of space underneath when you remove the cup holder makes a great place to stash important items.

Its already there:

Fuel cutoff switch door, removable thirdrow cupholders, removable whateverthehell shelf thingie behind the cupholders

...they ALL pop out

PS this would be something Border Control, ICE, DEA, ATF, etc would be INTIMATELY familiar with, thanks to all those special service Expedition SSVs Ford supplied em with... regular cops maybe not so much though, since the Pursuit-rated PPV trucks are the Explorer/Interceptor and the Tahoe PPV

Yeah, all in there is the space i was referring to. I wish there was a classy and non obvious way to make a hatch or some sort of door cutout to access those spaces from the rear of the car when the back door is open

I know all those things pop out, just not as convenient or user friendly as I'd like. The fuel cutoff switch is in the location i think a hatch should be, it's just not nearly big enough to store what i have in mind. If i wanted to stash something, i could probably carefully put it back there by popping out that shelg thingy you were referring to, but a bigger pop-out or swing-open hatch in the back would provide the quick access i want out of my ideal scenario. Oh well. Its just disappointing they left all that space back there without an easy way to get to it

It's true there are small places, which is good. Just need somewhere to hide things that may be 16"-20 something" in length...which is why i started all this with ideas on how to get a cheap storage tray with that lid that can become a divider or shelf so i could hollow out the tray and pad with cutout foam to store stuff there:)

Ive thought about trying to fenagle under the seat, but not as inconspicuous. I just want things that apparently arent easy to do.

Dimensions, shape, hardness/brittleness/fragility, weight, and who you're hiding this from (crooks? cops? spouse? ...all the above???) MIIIGHT help

Long and straight. Back end is triangle in shape, but more or less haped like a stick or bat with a pistol grip. Hard like aluminum and steel. Made of metal. Not really super fragile, but dont want it bouncing and banging around. Secure mounting/storage is ideal. I suppose hiding from all those wouldnt be so bad :) if theres room, perhaps some other items like smaller friends shaped like a squirt gun, but again, made of harder materials.
