Ok, so the title might be a little bit of click bait. I like my Expedition, but the cargo area is just too slippery. Groceries go everywhere even with sedate city driving. Big grocery run I folded down both rows which was a mistake.

What do people on here use for cargo area management? Keep things from sliding around on the stock carpet.

Dorzak,

This probably isn’t helpful but I was tired of this too so I pulled the rear floor panel cover, removed the spare tire tools and shoved them in the side plastic area beneath the plastic tray and now have that “shallow well” area to put groceries and stuff. They stay there now and I’m thrilled.

I have an EL so have a second well under the shelf that folds up. First aid kit and a few emergency tools are now stored under there. Realized I lost a can of chili somewhere yet to find.

I have a 2015 Expedtion Limited 4x4 - purchased new.

This is one of the design flaws of the Expedtion - it has a flat rear load floor, but it slopes to the rear. Virtually anything you put in the rear slides against the rear hatch door, and sometimes falls out when the hatch is opened.

I hate this feature of the Expedtion. Ford was TOO CHEAP to add an elastic cargo net at the rear, or design something simple to avoid this.

I did not realize how irritating this feature is until I bought and used the vehicle.

I always try to block from fore to aft meaning bags against rear seat, then heavy/bulky stuff (milk/canned goods/paper towels etc.) by the rear door. you could also try a cargo net with bungee cords perhaps.

I realized there was a problem when a gallon jar of pickles rolled out when I opened the tailgate. Shattered in the driveway.

You would think that when the Ford engineers and employees test drove the Expedition, they would have realized this design flaw immediately. Hooks mounted in the rear with an expandable cargo net would go a long way to prevent items from falling out.

Sad, but NOTHING compared to the time a six pack of beer bottles crashed on the driveway. I was devastated. I always put groceries in the foot area of front seat and some on front seat. Pizza is more challenging as if put in the front seat the cheese all collect on one side of pizza ...

You think you got problems?
I have a bowling alley in the back of my Expy.
I can land a drone aircraft back there if needed.
Elon Musk asked me about using as remote launch platform for the BFR.

This exact thing happened to me too!

Simple. Just slam on the brakes when you get home and everything will slide forward.
I ACTUALLY DO THIS.

It is, and it's been fixed in the next-gen… kinda. The threshold where the tailgate latches now has a slope towards the front to keep things from rolling out as easily.

I got a small rug at Target that color matches and just fits the rear of my 2011 Exped. I also use a couple of those fold up baskets for really rolly stuff.

Wow I just read through 14 posts, and laughed at one. Why not get a couple of those adjustable poles that they use in pickup trucks for the same issue. That along with a net should do the trick. That's the logical way!

Yup, same thing here x2. My wife, bless her heart, did it a couple days before we traded in our 2017 and then she did it again the day after we got the 18. Poor pickles didn’t even see it coming. In her defense, our driveway slopes a decent amount. And for those wondering, of course I helped clean up the mess both times.

There is a lip but it doesn’t stop anything bigger than a soup can from rolling out if the truck is parked on an incline.

Had a WeatherTech cargo liner in our 14 and a HuskyLiner in our 17. Neither stopped things from rolling out the back.

I can say we are still way better off than the latest GM SUV owners though. Their rear platform is angled down so even in a flat parking lot, everything wants to roll out.

I had the same problem lost a gallon if milk to the driveway along with more expensive items so I installed a cargo net I bought off of Amazon. No issues since.

Here’s an idea, put all the shit that rolls or is glass (like gallon sized pickles, wtf why do u need this many??) against the third row seats and put the other crap in front to keep it from rolling out.

Another option, check out the all new totally redesigned rear lift window standard on all 2016 expeditions. This enables you to see what is up against the liftgate before you open it to guarantee that nothing will fall out bc all you have to do is push the button, move the stuff back, and then open the gate!

Proper packing will avoid all the troubles you are experiencing
