First, thanks to everyone who posted previously on this thread and others about the power pedal repair. I just picked up a mint condition 2003 expy 4wd with 95k on it and the pedals were not moving. The threads here and also videos I found on youtube gave me hope this was a quick fix and nothing to worry about.
In my case, it is actually not the gear but the motor that is burned out. I have no action at all and got it down to the motor getting power but doing absolutely nothing. I saw many notes here on how to manually adjust the brake pedal but not the gas so i wanted to add what I did for the gas pedal in this case.
If you have a dead motor you can do the following.
To adjust the brake, disconnect the cable on top of the motor which is located just to the right of the gas pedal then simply turn the cable (I used a pair of vice grips) to adjust the brake pedal. No removal of the gear box cover is needed. Re-attach the cable to the motor.
For the gas pedal, do the same in reverse. Disconnect the cable from the top of the brake gear box and then rotate the cable to adjust the gas pedal.
I may try and find a motor at the salvage yard but honestly doubt I will ever need to move the pedals again.
Now on to fixing the play in my power drivers seat
