Do you have the tow package?? Mine is hit or miss because the hitch is in the way. It works best on the left side for me.

They can be finicky and dirt may play a role. Location, hitch or no hitch. Method, straight in and out once with no side to side. Key fob within three feet. Details and diagrams are on page 74 of the owners manual.

Thanks! Yes, I have a receiver hitch mounted. Problem started before I inserted the hitch.

I disconnected mine as I didn't like that feature. Here's what I discovered: A small interface box is located in the rear bumper housing on the driver's side just inside of where the left frame rail ends. There is a wiring harness connected to it as well as an antenna that is about 4' long and looks like a coax cable that is clipped to the inside bottom of the bumper. There is a plastic snap that secures the cover over the box. The interface should be immune to road splash, but it's possible that dirt/mud accumulation over that antenna may interfere with sensing your foot wagging. Or, the interface could have failed. If all looks clean, maybe an appointment with your dealer is in order.

FYI, the menu option only disables the power lift gate operation, it does not stop the foot wagging from unlocking the lift gate. I've had the lift gate try to open when I was accessing the rear area with the glass open and also when I was shuffling behind the Expy with the garage door closed. I decided simply pressing the button under the handle was sufficient for my needs and disconnected the antenna. That didn't cause any grief for the computer and I'm a happy camper.

Just the hitch will block part of the sensors range, you don’t have to have the ball mount in the hitch to have this issue.

When I was looking to buy an expedition at a different dealership that I actually bought from. The salesman was showing my wife the rear to the car while I was up front looking at stuff. I didnt push any buttons then suddenly the lift gate came down and and closed on the salesman. He loooked mad at me cause he thought I shut it on him. In hind sight I dont think he knew about the foot door close thing and he shut it on himself.

Can you disable this by disconnecting something? I cannot stand this feature as I have accidentally opened the rear hatch while in the garage. I would love to disable it somehow even if it means disconnecting a wire. Help?

One of the posts above mentioned disconnecting the antenna from the control box on the left frame rail.

Scroll back to my post of Jul 21 about this. I was also annoyed by the hatch opening while in the closed garage and also when accessing something through the open glass. I found a solution and have added 5000 miles and lots of activity back there like hooking up safety chains to the trailer with no consequences from disconnecting that antenna.
