so I went to put my 05 Expedition in gear and this happened.

Has anybody ever experienced this. I think I found a Dorman part (905 104)that I believe is a repair.

It's not uncommon for the police car SSV's to break. They either get abused from being banged into and out of gear or the die cast pot metal just loses its strength and falls apart.

no I am not, I have had it since 99K.

Yeah, no telling how it was treated by a previous owner(s) ....
I've seen people letting their young kids hang off the gear shift handle when they're playing in the vehicle. Or their parents leave them in the vehicle while they go into the bar or store .... etc, etc ....

well this was a good fix. a bit of a PITA, but a solid fix. way better than the steering column that I would have gotten from the dealer.

Were you doing any "acrobatic parking" in a secluded spot, perhaps with someone's (...or someones') legs in the air?
