reading the other post on knocking is making me paranoid about whether I should be running the ole gal on these trips?

At 191,*** should I not be doing these trips? She runs great no noises whatsoever. No abnormal oil consumption during these runs. 1qt for 1100 mi run straight thru 18 hours plus or minus of constant running.

Talk me off the ledge boys.

I'm a firm believer in the more you drive your vehicle the better it is for it. Unless it is a collectible, and even then it needs to be driven a few miles at least every couple of weeks. I drove my F150 every day with 700lbs worth of tools in the back for17yrs only had it towed home once.

Drove my 2000 to 250,000 miles before a head gasket leaked. Prior to that, took it from New York to Virginia a dozen times a year and only once had a problem.

It spit out a plug (that someone else installed) at 150 K miles in Allentown, Pennsylvania a couple of miles from a dealer. They got me for $1000 to install an easy-cert but gave me a loaner for my trip.

Never failed to start, never got me stranded. Just the usual nonsense: Exhaust manifold, steering box, front end parts, transmission line rot. Always a tight well running car. I miss it a lot.

Well just arrived. I set out to baby her this time and I did by cruising at 75mph and being careful that it didn’t kick down gears up hills and jump the rpms to 3000.
This worked till I got to Valdosta GA. After a 3 hr nap at the rest stop I just wanted to get to Fla so I set out and cruised at 80 mph and at times almost 90 when passing morons who drive slow in the left lane.
I measured oil at mid point of trip and after sitting with the oil cap off and dip stick out while I gassed her up the oil was touching the low dot on the stick. Gave her a half quart of her favorite beverage for the remainder of the trip.

I’ll check level before I start her and let ya know what a 7-8 hr run at 80-90mph consumed in oil.

No oil consumed on last 8 hr leg. Ran her hard at 80mph and some at 90 mph. Nada.

I’m gonna baby her on the way back. I hope.
