New member here - two days ago I traded in my 2015 XLT EL for a new Limited Max with stealth package. It is one sweet truck. But it seems to have a consistent mild shudder - particularly noticeable between 20 and 40 and certainly more noticeable when on a smooth road. The street I live on is smooth as glass with a 40 mph speed limit, so I feel the shudder very consistently. It’s coming thru the seat, not the steering, and it’s definitely not the lane assist. I took it to Goodyear yesterday and had the tires balanced, but it didn’t affect the shudder. I’ll take it in for service next week to the Ford dealer and see if they can pinpoint it.

Has anyone else experienced this, or might have ideas what could be the source? Thanks.

This is a very common thing here on the forum. The best solution is getting New tires, the stock ones arent the best and most all who changed them out noticed drastic changes in the vehicles on road behavior. Some have road forced balanced their tires, but thats not a sure fire solution. You could also lower your tire pressure a bit. Again, If youre able, new tires is the best bet.

Thanks - I also saw another couple of threads with similar issues. I really don't want to drop a thousand dollars on tires for a car right off the lot, but it's good to know if that's the issue.

I can check the tire warranty info, but I wonder if there's any opportunity to have the dealer replace them with something else, without cost for me? I assume they would need to make a determination themselves that the tires are defective in some way.

I've noticed a small shudder under very light loads. I think it is just a glitch with engine/trans programming. Goes away with change of throttle position.

You can try to isolate it to determine if it is the tires. Drive the same stretch in sport mode. It will keep the transmission in a lower gear and the rpm higher. If it still shudders it is the tires.

You may be able to find a tire shop that will buy the used tires for a reasonable price if you buy the new tires from them. This is what I did when I switched to my Michelin Defender LTX M/S when my Expy was new. I decided not to pursue anything with the dealer since I wasn't interested in a hassle over my preferred tires vs. the cheap OEM Toyos that came on mine.
