If you live in Michigan, just curious approx what you are paying to renew your license plate on an '18 or '19 Expi.

I had just renewed my plate on my Explorer about 4 weeks before I transferred it to my new Expedition back in December. Just got the renewal notice and its over 4 times as much as last year. I expected it to be maybe twice as much, but not 4 times. So, just curious if it's on par or if they messed something up. Thanks.

I pay a bit under $200 all said and done to renew my Registration in NY, a bit pricey but not too bad. If it’s 4 times as in over $800+ whoa.

Paid $134 last year for Explorer. Transferred to Expi and they now want $562 this year. At same time, '19 Edge is just $133 to renew. I assume they have something wrong, but want to verify with other MI residents..

$89/yr in PA for vehicles between 5000 and 7000#. Fortunately the value of the vehicle is not correlated to the registration fee like in many other states.

Looks like Michigan bases registration fees on the value of the vehicle. Here is a calculator from the DMV website. https://dsvsesvc.sos.state.mi.us/TAP/_/#1

That’s just wrong and whacked. Value has nothing to do with weight/class of the vehicle you drive. Communist states lol.

Agreed! I have a friend that lives in Virginia, and they are the same way. Makes it expensive to own a new vehicle.

Holy Cow ... some states have annual "ownership tax" based on value of vehicle. Never knew.

A lot of people complain about tax'es like property tax in NYS. Other states don't have that property tax .. but they gotta get the money from somewhere ... So other kinds of tax exist.

Colorado has a pretty cool thing with their Lottery. 50% of proceeds go to trails recreational land parks outdoors etc. Nice!

In Florida .. your mobile home has to be registered with annual fee to DMV. You know, the mobile home that's never going to see a highway again ever. Weird

AZ second year, $1,080. Decreased a whole $40 from last year. Wife's eight-year-old MKX only went down $10 from last year. Then our cheap legislature slapped on a $35 surcharge "allegedly" to boost Highway Patrol salaries. They even charge an extra $5 on the golf cart, and it never sees a "highway." It used to be that we paid more because AZ was a big state with relatively few residents. Man, has that ever changed.

In Ohio, last time I renewed, it was about $300 for a 5 year sticker. We have a sales tax on the vehicle when purchased. After that it is the same fee per year whether you are registering a new Rolls Royce or a total beater.

Let's all remember, "registration" is different in every state. When we lived in VA, registration was cheap. Something like 15 bucks a year, maybe less. BUT they have personal property tax based on the value of the vehicle. My Expy would have been well over $3000 a year. Here in AZ, no personal property tax, but the registration fee is based on vehicle value, so around $1300 or so.

Then tack on your insurance for a real sense of cost. Our insurance actually dropped moving to AZ, which surprise us. Always heard it was high. It was quite a bit less than it was in VA. (And that was cheaper than PA, which was WAY cheaper than NJ)

It's some what all relative....to a point. Got to pay to play, or drive a Corolla!
