Good Afternoon All,

My 2017 XLT has recently started making a slight rumble noise when turning. Almost as if the tire is rubbing but I know it isn't. Odd thing is it seems to happen when making slight turns while driving around 15 mph and not stopping. I don't know how better to describe it but it sounds odd and has been doing it more and more often. Road conditions don't matter, but today were dry. I have about 58k miles on it.

Also, I still am having the lazy shifting and bump when taking off and downshifting. I brought it to a dealer and of course they said it wasn't covered under warranty. It's just so annoying. Anyone aware of any recent updates on that or have similar conditions?

I really wish I wouldn't have bought this particular version. It came from Canada and not the US. Not sure if that's part of the problem because they drove it in crappy conditions up there. Already had to replace a windshield strut for lack of a better term that broke while raining. I love driving this vehicle a lot though.

Nate - I'm sure you tried this but is your truck in 2H when you hear the noise? Mine is definitely "louder" in 4A and 4H due to more moving parts. Also, I would take it to a dedicated transmission shop and have them test drive it. At least you would have a fresh set of eyes looking at it. Good luck!!

Could be a front bearing. Does it make the noise when turning either direction or just one?

I had an old Explorer that drove me nuts with a low-speed grumbling noise. I threw a lot of parts at it.
Bottom line: It was the tires. I rotated pretty frequently, so the noise didn't change much as they were all wearing the same. New tires = noise gone.

I agree with the others, if it is EPAS failure it generally will rumble when stopped too. Likely tires or a front bearing are my best shot in the dark guesses. If you do start to feel odd vibrations when turning stopped the electric rack would be suspect though.

Is the rumble coming from front or rear? Has the rear differential fluid been replaced? They can make a rumble noise when turning corners. The fix is to change the rear end fluid and if it's limited slip, add the friction modifier. What is the dealer saying that's not covered under warranty? Powertrain is 60k miles

I had a rumble and severe delay in shifting when I bought my ‘15 with 74,000 miles. The transmission drove me nuts for 15,000 miles. I Changed plugs, coils, and it still had the delay. Had one dealership tell me it was the torque converter. A friend suggested I try a transmission shop before making a decision. They suggested a flush, but warned it might not be the cure. After 20 qts and a can of friction modifier it runs perfect. He said it was the nastiest fluid he may have ever seen, but he just kept pumping new fluid in until it was clean. In addition to normal driving, I’ve towed at least 1,500 miles since and have had zero issues.

Rumble is in the front for sure when turning.
The dealer said transmission bump and lazy shifting I am experiencing they said was in normal conditions and not warranty. Even though when it was really cold a couple times it actually jolted me.
I have not replaced rear differential fluid.
