Does anyone else here have a problem with the 3rd row seat belt not being retained properly by the magnet holder in the ceiling of the car?

I never make it more than 2 or 3 days before it falls out again. I've tried trimming down the part that it plugs into (the inside retainer that holds the metal portion of the belt), adding screws to add more tension to the inside plastic piece, nothing seems to work...

It looks like there are 2 issues. The magnet isn't strong enough to hold the clip and the inside plastic piece that is supposed to retain it seems to be the wrong size for the square metal hole in the buckle.

Yes, I find it quite perturbing and would love a solution. I’ve thought about wrapping the buckle part with a rubber band in the hopes that it would retain the that little slot better... this will sound so dumb but I can’t find a rubber band anywhere in my house and I refuse to buy a bag full when I only need one. I know....1st world problems.

Maybe tape?

I have not paid any attention to mine. I never removed it and really have no plans to, so hopefully factory stuck will remain stuck. ;)

Wait, so yours is still stuck into place? Wow!

I’ve used mine a handful of times. I normally keep it in the ceiling and I don’t think it’s ever fallen down.

I thought about replacing the magnet with a stronger one or coming up with something to squeeze the buckle in the slot.

Mine is "still attached to the ceiling" but I'm taking about the metal part of the tip falling out of the plastic retention hole. I bet the people that say theirs is "still there" aren't noticing that it's fallen out of the retention hole (but the magnet is still keeping it on the ceiling). If you can the tip of the buckle in your rear view mirror, it has fallen out...

I think you have to solve the problem on the ceiling side. I don't think you can alter the buckle side. Otherwise you're going to mess with the proper functionality of it.

This!! I used a small rare earth magnet and have not had it fallen down since. One like this on Amazon: Small Rare Earth Magnet

I just slapped the magnet on the plastic part where the buckle rests and it's good. You can still pull the belt down to use it.

Just FYI for those that have a Max like myself and don’t understand the issue since ours don’t typically fall out, the regular length Expy is mounted different as the ceiling is sloping down where it retracts vs being flat on the Max. That’s why it doesn’t stay put on the regular length ones.

Ooooohhhhh, now I understand. Yes, the flat ceiling on the Max seems to retain the buckle nicely. Thank you for the clarification.

Can a MAX owner please post a picture of their roof seat belt holder? I'm still confused how it's supposed to work...

Here is a picture I found on another thread of the regular length holder. Seems Ford designed it backwards. Doesn’t make sense to me for it to go up. That’s why all the non Max owners are complaining.

Oh yeah that’s awful. Our Maxes are 100% horizontal. Although we don’t get a magnet. So there’s that.

Well that explains a lot. Everything about the MAX version is a better design. Alas, I will continue to scheme up some ghetto fab rigged solution.
