Ya, the bearings were toast. As was the cam and quite a few other parts. Ugly... She rips now though and is one of the best sounding Mustangs on the road that I've heard. My son has ~20k on the motor and she still runs like a top. He doesn't drive it in the winter, but he called me the other day to tell me he went out on a nice day and started it to check everything out. He was absolutely amazed at how easy it started lolHey Hawk, what's the matter with those inserts? Isn't that how they are supposed to look? ROTFLMAO?
OUCH!

Those pictures should be the poster for "CHANGE YOUR FREAKIN' OIL!!!"Ya, the bearings were toast. As was the cam and quite a few other parts. Ugly... I suspect his Mustang was probably more than 2 years and some overheating and a whole lot of I don't care lol Keep your eyes open. He goes to UofM for Mech Eng so he rips his Mustang around up by you quite a bit during nice weather. Those pictures should be the poster for "CHANGE YOUR FREAKIN' OIL!!!"
I met a guy a couple years back that leased his cars. He NEVER took them in for an oil change!! 2 years and 24K miles!! He knew he wouldn't be keeping it, so WTH?? His engines probably looked a lot like those pictures...

The dark rod , usually means a spun bearingHey Hawk, what's the matter with those inserts? Isn't that how they are supposed to look? ROTFLMAO?

My whole life I've been keeping a log book of all my cars (there have been way too many...) and have religiously written down all my maintenance and mileages. I still do, but having the message pop up so I don't have to keep referring back to my log book or keeping it in the back of my mind to see when I'm due on my daily driver is a big help. With a single vehicle it's not so much of a PITA. Too much crapola to keep track of these days. I have ~20 separate passwords for work... If I thought the reminder wasn't accurate, I wouldn't use it. I know it is from testing it the first year or so, so why not use it?
FWIW, the dark rod has nothing to do with a spun bearing. It's burnt on oil.The dark rod , usually means a spun bearing
I think you guys made that up, in all my years of being a mechanic I never heard that.FWIW, the dark rod has nothing to do with a spun bearing. It's burnt on oil.
I just saw an example on a awesome youtube show, called Nick's Garage. It was on his Kowalski 440 Charger engine. The engine spun and broke the rod in two. He showed how it changed color, from heating of the metal.I think you guys made that up, in all my years of being a mechanic I never heard that.
Very different scenario and result.I just saw an example on a awesome youtube show, called Nick's Garage. It was on his Kowalski 440 Charger engine. The engine spun and broke the rod in two. He showed how it changed color, from heating of the metal.
