Oil level after turbo change.

Nice of my dealer to top off the oil after they replaced the turbo.

It was surely full, b/c i check the level after they replaced the cam phasers.

I wondered if they changed the oil after the cam phasers?

The navigator is 1year old with 12,000 miles. This is under warranty.

I did not get to inform the dealer yet.
I just found it this evening.

I was traveling when we bought ours and when I changed the oil for the first time after having it for a month it was nearly 3qts low. It was sold as new but a manager at the dealership had driven it so it had 4000 miles when we bought it.

Every time I take my vehicle to the dealership for warranty service I do the following:
1. Write down the mileage
2. Take photos of each side of my vehicle, front, rear, left, right, top
On picking it up:
3. Inspect for damage
4. Inspect the work has been done to my satisfaction
5. Check oil level before driving off the lot

on any service I want to ensure was accomplished I tell them I want to inspect the old filter or I give them a bottle to collect a sample so I can send it off for testing. I have even marked tires to ensure tire rotation has occurred. Once bitten twice shy and it’s a helluva lot easier to complain and get redress before you leave the lot.

i am going to print out your post and leave that in my glovebox as a check list.

I walk 360° around the truck taking a video at drop off. I do the same before I drive it off the lot. I figure if I notice any damages later on, I have the two videos as evidence. I do the same thing for rental cars. I got stuck paying for somebody else’s damages once because I didn’t see it when I picked up the vehicle.

I once had a GM dealer scratch a my truck. I had dash cam footage of the guy hitting it, then getting out to look at it. I didn’t notice the scratches until the next day. They did fix it without me bringing up the video. I wasn't happy. I’m pretty sure they were hoping I wouldn’t notice or thought that it happened elsewhere.

the fact that these vehicles have 4 cameras and no ability to use one to dash cam is sad. Tesla set the bar with their sentinel mode, I feel like that will trickle down the the rest of the market soon.

My dealer always takes photos of vehicles, when the enter for service. I'm sure it's more to protect them, but I figure it works both ways.

Now that I’m thinking of it a couple of interior photos in case something is amiss like a new tear or stain. Especially in the driver seat area, a forgotten screw driver in the back pocket, etc. I might start taking a overall photo of the engine bay too. I do all this right in front of the service advisor, it lets them know I’m observant. In the old days they would clean it before returning it but alas, not any more.

I once had a loaner they tried to pin some damage on it on me. My photos quickly laid that to rest. It’s sad we have to go to these lengths but they see so many cars and are usually rushing that mistakes and damage may occur.

No burn in 2,500 miles since I changed it. My wife had only driven it 1000 miles between purchase and me changing for the first time so I doubt it but who knows.

It is possible that the dealership had changed the oil prior to delivery and had used 5W20 instead of the recommended 5W30. I was working on a friends Dodge 3.5l that was three qts low after 3000 miles. Checked the service sticker and discovered that the oil service establishment had put in 5W20. The car had never had oil use issues prior and has not had them since.

When I had the turbo replace on may 7th the milage was 12,204.

The dealer forgot to fill up the oil,
I brought the truck back and they topped off, and actually over filled abit.

No at 14797 and the oil is barely on the dip stick? That only 2593 miles.

What is going on here?

I burned over 2qts in 1200 miles on a road trip. My dealer isn't being very helpful so I'm going to go on the search for another that can help me. My catch can grand about 6oz every 500 miles but I'm burning way not than that. Seems to be worse on long drives

Was it burning oil before turbo change? May be there is a leak in one of the oil feed lines for the turbo.

Honestly I never looked at the oil levels,
I would have the oil changed.

I do not see any leaks.

If the catch can is not full of oil, next thing to check for oil is the discharge pipe.
