I have what is, I am sure, a really dumb question. I just bought a CPO 2018 Limited.

I want to update the maps on the Nav as they seem really, really out of date. There is an entire section of my neighborhood, built in 2016, that is missing among a number of other things. In a search, I found that I can side load Sync 3.4 on to my car, but that it comes with risk of breaking stuff. I didn't see any search results for 'official' updating of the maps.

What/how is the official mechanism to get a map update? And roughly how much does it cost?

Or is the loading of Sync 3.4 really that risky?

The official update site is https://syncnavigation.com/. It will ask you for your VIN and ESN. When you pull up the 'About SYNC' page in your car there are 2 ESNs. This site wants the SYNC one at the bottom of the screen.

It was free to update my 2018 to the latest maps. I'm not sure how long the free updates will last, but it was a pleasant surprise.

Thank you for the info! Looks like I am also eligible for a free upgrade. Downloading that monster file now

Very good to know, thanks! If I want to update Sync itself, can I do so after the map update?

I updated my 2018 from Sync 3.0 to 3.4 and a few other updates since then (including 2019 map pack). You can do through Cyanlabs and while there is a risk, it is quite easy and if you follow the directions there should be little chance to mess up.

This right here...recommend it highly.

As much as I'd love to update to 3.4 I'd guess the dealer would void your warranty for any issues that could happen with the Sync system in general. 3.4 is technically unsupported right?

No, its part of the software in some 2019 and beyond.

I downloaded the free Nav map updates from the Sync site. I cannot get them to install. I don't get any error messages, it only says something like USB Device 1 detected. Nothing else happens. Any ideas?

I got the free update installed. I had to unzip the big Nav file directly from my computer to the thumb drive and copy the license file there too. I had to do it several times, but it finally worked.
