14 expedition low/rough idle

I have a 14 Expedition with 65000 miles bought used about 2 years ago. For the last 2 weeks I noticed that while in drive or reverse the idle seems a little low and rough. Took it to dealer and they suggested changing the plugs and tune up for 700 dollars. So before I have them do anything, what else should I look out for that might be something else causing the problem? Thanks.

The "tune-up" is nothing more than changing plugs and an air filter. I agree that changing plugs isn't a bad idea and possibly could fix your problem. But it may not, and $700 to change spark plugs boarders on criminal.

Your year has regular spark plugs with no issues, $700 is absolutely insane for plugs

So how hard is it to change the plugs? I know the early 3v had problems so assume the later model years were okay. Might do them my self if I can get the time.

My honest & competent local shop (Dewey's in Fairport) put plugs, new rotors & pads (high quality) and NYS inspection in my 2014EL for $700 at 75K. I bought them a pizza.

What is a tune-up? I'm suspicious of the shop advice you referenced. I'm a proponent of diagnosis and then repair. Wonder how they got to the plug & tune-up conclusion? Are there codes? How low is the low idle? My 2014EL 5.4 goes to 750RPM after a brief warm up and stays there in drive or reverse (just a tad lower). I'm no expert by any means but wonder how "plugs" could cause a low idle.

All I was told was that they detected small misfires and a plug change and tune up would help. They recommend me not to go past 80k without a tune up and plugs

There is no "tune up" on these motors. Change plugs and filter. What all these posts are telling you is that you are getting hosed.

Change the plugs yourself. The plugs on these trucks haven't been an issue since 2008.

Bad plugs will have hard starts and poor performance, but the have to be basically shot. I would try spraying the throttle body. They get build up with gunk and starve the engine for air at idle.

I have a 2014 Limited and changed to plugs around 70,000 using the Iridium plugs, changed all the filters, no problems. Check each plug to see how it looks upon removal. It will tell you how each cylinder is firing. We added a Flowmaster Delta Force cold air induction, model # 389-615125. Don't forget to change coolant it's due.
