I guess I didn't notice this before but I seem to have an inordinate amount of idle hours as a percent of the total. I'm the second owner but it looks like almost 22% of my engine hours are at idle. Previous owner must have sat around a lot. Also looks like lifetime average mph is 30.4.

What percent of engine hours to you all have at idle?

Probably on eco mode or his lie o meter is way off. On my 2016, I can get mine to say about 450 but then about 390-400 miles later it’s dry. Plus as soon as he starts with stop and go traffic that # will drop. As for engine idle hours, that is a ton! This is the one thing ecoboosts hate is idling bc it just consumes a lot of gas and they tend to get hot, then you have the issue of the fans running like a rocket

So you guys use auto start up a lot? Pretty sure that counts towards the hours too

I did until about 5k miles ago. Had to get the eliminator because my aftermarket TVs in the back didn’t like the shut down/restart cycle. The audio shop worked on it for 2 days and couldn’t ever fix it (they tried capacitors and resistors and goat sacrifice and everything else they could...no dice). So I bought the eliminator and moved on with my life. Haha

Negative, I've had the auto-start/stop eliminator OBDII plug-in for months.

Just a personal preference for me, it bothered me having to let off the brake for the engine to restart in anticipation of oncoming traffic. That and the a/c stopping while the engine was off..my wife and kids were livid, living deep south so there's that

LOL. And I have already driven about 20 miles on this fillup. I never use eco mode but this is a Max so bigger fuel cell and I last did a few highway miles so I am sure it is using that mpg in the calculation. It usually does show over 500 though when I fill up.

I am probably about 31% +/-, and totally fine with it.

Living in Texas (104 degrees today) and South Florida (90+ super high humidity) and as an outdoor vehicle (despite the best tints and being silver) it takes quite awhile to cool down.

I almost always leave it on as I run quick in/out errands and as my sister (Covid transplant) runs her errands--and yes I sit often at idle while catching up on work/personal calls too.

I mitigate by early oil changes (now synthetic) and blow it out on the highway when fully warmed up periodically.

YMMV

my 5 star tunes killed that start/stop crap 2 wks after I bought this ride. You can also nix it via Forscan (saw it when tinkering around all the modules one day).

I have a MAX as well (27.8 gallon tank). Must be the way I drive like I'm qualifying for Daytona + the 93 performance tune i'm running.

I’d love to see this particular stat on my Navigator and I’m clueless as to why Ford felt it best to leave this option out.

Sorry to stray a bit from the OP's question but this issue has been a concern of mine for maybe 50 years.

Why do we let vehicles idle for no apparent reason? If the temperature is 73 F, is it necessary to leave it running with the AC on? If it is 71F, do you leave it running with the heater on? Yes, those are exaggerations but it sometimes seems that extreme. But, really, are we that delicate that we can't survive a few moments until the AC/heater kick in?

It wastes gas and pollutes the air when we do it. How much more simple can it get?

Rant over.

I guess the question is what definition is considered to be “idle”.

Does the vehicle need to be in Park? If so, my idle time would include hitching and unhitching my camper with the dogs inside. Sure I can turn it off, but why start and stop during that time. Another category would be waiting to pick up the wife and/or kids from an practice or event.

The other is in traffic. There are have been many times where I have been stuck in Washington, DC traffic where it seems like a parking lot.

Yes, it can waste gas and cause pollution. I may sound entitled, but that is not why I bought this vehicle. I bought it for the capabilities when I needed them.
