Hey folks,
I have tried to search the forum but haven’t had much luck so I figured I’d ask. I have a 2010 EB, Recently I have started hearing a noise, it happens when I hit the accelerator in the 900 to 1000rpm range. It sounds like a combination of a rattle and a scraping sound like the sound you hear when you drag a piece of metal across concrete. If I put the truck in park or neutral and rev the motor I won’t hear it, but if I put it in drive and hold the brake while revving I can get it to make the sound but not as pronounced as when I’m driving. The truck rides fine and I have no dash light warnings.

I was able to get some decent audio of it but I used the voice recorder app on my phone and can’t upload that file as an attachment so I’ll have to try again tomorrow.
Is this even remotely enough of a clue for anyone to give me an idea what I could be hearing?
Thanks

Perhaps..given the limited info you provided. I had a similar sounding event occur with my 2010 EXPY Limited a number of years back. I found the source of the noise to be a loose exhaust shield around the cross over pipe nearest the drivers side. A stainless steel worm clamp, to keep from corroding and falling off in the future, around the drivers side of the shield fixed it.

Where is it coming from? Fan hitting something?

I feel like the sound is coming from under the truck, I'll try capture the audio in a video today and upload it. I have not figured out a way to upload just the audio files I captured last night before I posted

What other info can I give ya? I can certainly try. I figured it was hard enough to try to describe a sound in text to begin with lol, that's why I figured the audio would help

VCT solenoids, as long as it goes away after 1,200 RPM don’t worry about it

it absolutely goes away by 1200 but for sanity here’s a quick video. I’m just pulling out of a parking spot and pulling up to a stop. You’ll hear it twice in the clip.

Another detail I forgot to mention is I popped the hood open and while leaning out of the door in park and pumped the accelerator. I can hear the sound faintly as I pump the pedal.
I’m not sure what the vacuum hub is to be honest so not sure if the vehicle has to be in motion or not. Now the heat shield making noise while the car is in park would make sense to me though just do to vibration.
This is my 4th Ford truck and they all been good to me so I have little experience troubleshooting them other than some electrical and cosmetic stuff.

See if your fan or torque converter is hitting anything and get under there and wiggle all of your heat shields....very strange.

RE: Your audio. Can you copy your audio to Messenger.... then use your PC to grab it? Don't know about audio, but JPG's go really fast if you've got both within reach. :D

Will do, waiting on a little bit warmer weather. I don’t mind it chilly but it’s a
b-tch when your fingers get numb. Supposed to be better towards the end of the week.

There is a heatshield on the cross connect pipe that is rattling. Had the exact same sound at just below 30mph. Driving through traffic let off a bit then back on.."braaap".

Anyone find out what the problem was? I have the exact same noise at the exact same RPMs. And it’s not my Heat shield rattling
