Hi everybody, pretty new here. To be honest I'm here because I've spent hours looking for the torque specs for four suspension/drivetrain components and have had zero luck.

Vehicle- 2004 XLT 4-wheel drive with autotrac.

Yesterday I replaced the actuator for the 4-wheel drive and the cv shaft while I was in there because the last actuator exploded and caused a lot of damage that the indie shop glossed over after they replaced the bearing set. Both the parts where good looking salvage yard replacements.

It's together and it works. But I had to guess on the torque values for the upper ball joint, the steering ball joint, the flange bolts, and the lower strut bolt.

My guess' were (in foot lbs); upper ball joint- 85, steering 85, lower strut bolt 300+, and cv flange bolts 65.

I drove home from the shop where I did the work 25 miles at 70mph and lived to ask this question so they those numbers might be close.

And BTW, the fix worked, I now have smooth engagement of 4-wheel drive...but it doesn't disengage quietly or quickly...which has me concerned. I used plenty of grease, hopefully in all the right places and none in the wrong places. But who knows, I was flying blind.

I searched here for enlightenment, but no joy. Any advice?

Thanks!

Ok, Thanks for the help guys. I think after a week nothing has fallen apart or broke off so it might be good for a while.

FWIW-

Hamfisted, the link worked but it didn't. it opened and acted like like it was downloading but after 45 minutes nothing showed so I shut it down.

riphip, Are you confident in those numbers? They seem low to me considering the size of the threads. Especially the lower shock bolt for the strut.

Yupster Dog, ???

Randy check your browser settings if it's not downloading. I just checked it and it downloads the complete file in about 30 seconds, but I have a FIOS internet connection, so it will depend on the speed of your connection. But it does download fine.

It turns out I was doing it wrong. I was clicking on the wrong button. once I went back tried again it blasted right through the download.

I connect to the internet via a USB tether to my Verizon phone. My speeds vary widely but average about 20-25mbps according to Speedtest. Even the local phone companies fiber network that they ran up to the house hardly beats that for the same money.

Pointed to the thread. Specs in the Chilton look closer to what I would use. Some of those other high torque # ones must be in Nm # specs. I have torque multipliers up to 1500 lbs but don't need any of those on these trucks.
