Service manager called and said I need a new battery… this didn’t come as a surprise as mine is 4 years old and I’ve been having the tale tale signs of imminent failure… ie interior lights shutting off quickly, touch door lock issues etc…

What’s the consensus on the best replacement? I looked through the search function and found a lot of ‘Northstar’ recommendations but they seem to be hard to find.

Thoughts and recommendations are appreciated.

OEM MotorCraft battery, specified for your vehicle.

Mine started acting up over the past couple of weeks as well, even after charging.

I just picked up a DieHard Platinum AGM for $210 at Advance Auto. It's been about 2 decades since I've used a DH (back when Sears was around and had great products), so we'll see how this goes.

From what I see, most get 4-5 years out of a Motorcraft AGM battery which is pretty decent for a newer car with a high level of electronic loads and auto stop / start technology. I would go with another one from the dealer and second choice would be an AGM from Interstate.

If a Costco member, that is the best source for a battery. They only carry interstate. Most batteries were made by Johnson Controls (now Brookfield Business Partners.).
I think you will find that most "gold" series batteries are quite similar in CCA regardless of the brand.

Costco does not install batteries, but you can swap out the old with the new in the parking lot making it convenient to receive your core refund.

Unfortunately, they currently don't have any for the Expy, at least in my tri-state area. First place I checked.

Our 2018 battery just failed. Went to dealer and had them install an OEM battery. Not cheap. $275. At least I didn’t have to hassle with it.

Whichever one has the best warranty. Lead acid starting batteries are a commodity. The price reflects the costs of materials and labor so you pretty much get what you pay for.

Battery warranties are all prorated, so with a five year warranty, the battery fails in 2.5 years you get 50 percent of the purchase price. There are only two major USA battery manufactures, Johnson Controls and Exide.

I had to replace my '15 Expy battery in '18 - sudden failure, I had AAA put in one of theirs. Price was very fair, service onsite was quick.

That battery started acting up last month, and I replaced it with an Optimum 34. In my '97 Yukon I had an optimum for about 8 years, the battery discharged, froze, etc and recovered with no problems. A bit more money but they last forever.

I just replaced mine with the same Motorcraft battery a OEM. Bought it from Rock Auto https://www.rockauto.com/en/parts/motorcraft,BAGM94RH7800,battery,2476 and it arrived two days later. First time using that website but I am very pleased so far.

Although you all probably don't need it, I thought this guide was pretty helpful: https://paulstravelpictures.com/201...tomotive-Battery-Replacement-Guide/index.html.

It assure easy to change, all of my settings and clock stayed input - the only thing that I had to change was for some reason my running boards went from "auto" to "off."

Any AGM battery, just don't go with a cheap battery that will leak acid all over the place. I've moved all of my vehicles that take batteries to AGM or lithium. No more crusty terminals or cleaning the battery top every oil change.

Mine did the same thing. Found that very odd...

I replaced my original Motorcraft battery with the same Motorcraft battery. It did not have a prorated warranty, but included a 3-year (no cost) replacement warranty if the battery was defective.

After a little research, it looks like Interstate from Costco might be the best value:
CCA 1000, 36/mo limited warrantee, ... $99 ...
