Hi:

Does anyone have a recommendation of a transmission cooler for a 2018 Expedition/Navigator 4x4 without the tow package? I drive a Navigator but am not seeing anything for Navs specifically, so I’m asking for Expeditions too.

My local shop wasn’t a huge fan of some of the after market coolers, but Lincoln has told me there isn’t anything OEM.

I appreciate in advance any feedback or recommendations!

The 10R80 in the 18'-21' Expy uses a heat exchanger that used the radiator fluid to heat and cool the transmission. The F-150 Raptor has the heat exchanger and an external oil cooler with a thermostat. I have yet to find anyone that will confirm you can upgrade to the Raptor oil cooler. The Navi is supposed to have the Raptor motor but I don't have one to know if they have both coolers. The HD tow package includes a bigger radiator to help with the engine temp and transmission temps. In the past it would be the added cooler. Keep in mind the 10R80's normal operating range is 206F-215F for day to day driving. It actually uses the radiator fluid to heat the transmission fluid up to operating temps when cold. If you find anything let us know and if you have both coolers on the Navi let us know. Good luck.

How can I tell whether I have one or both coolers? Sorry for the very, very dumb question.

This is what the Expy has, the circled picture is the oil to water heat exchanger .

This is what the Raptor has. The oil cooler on the Raptor is on the drivers side in front of the radiator positioned in the middle and does not go all the way across. The aftermarket cooler take the cooler all the way to the passenger side of the radiator and they offer a thermostat delete option. Can a guy or gal buy all these parts and change over to this style? I bet you could, but I don't know anyone who has tried it. I thought about it, but my Expy tows all the time in some pretty hot weather and it's been fine.

I tow through the mountains & the stock towing temps up in the 240’s had my tranny slipping, & I don’t care what ford says, heat still kills transmissions, as I have seen plenty of these trannys torn up over at ford.
I ripped out the that heat exchanger located by the tranny, because the coldest the Trans fluid can cool off to is whatever the ECT is currently running at.

I built the tranny with McLeod frictions & steels & mounted a mishimoto traditional raptor cooler up front & run 150-175 flatland towing & very low 200 after pulling up serious hills at full towing speed

What all did you have to buy to get the new cooler installed?

No, it doesn’t have a front mounted cooler. It has an ECT-feed, heat exchanger down by the tranny, problem with that is that the tranny can never get cooler than the ECT, which IMHO is still way too hot, especially if towing, especially in up & down hills, like we encounter in the smokies.

I bought a mishimoto raptor cooler, ran lines up front, got rid of the Tran-mounted heat exchanger, and eliminated the ECT lines that were originally coming down from the motor to deleted heat exchanger.
