2022 LTD MAX 4WD tires - The Generals gotta go

I’ve got 12000 miles on these stupid Generals. I didn’t like them in the beginning but I thought I’d chill out and ride ‘em for a while and give them a chance. Enough is enough. with the exception of balancing issues that Ive read about, I’m experiencing everything else.

I don’t off road this thing. Aside from some long gravel driveways that get washed out and beat up boat ramps, this rig is 99% pavement.
Light towing
loads of highway
10-20 days a year in snow/ice

What does the forum braintrust recommend on these 22s?

Bridgestones...? My dad has em in his escalade and they are extra quiet and smooth, but they expensive.

Ihave run coopers on the expy and f-150 3rd et on xpy 212,000 miles. f150 2 sets 175,000 miles when sold.Traction was good in nj snow and all other types of weather.

Right now, I think that the Continental TerrainContact A/T will be my next set. In December my Hankooks will be five years old, not worn out by any stretch, but time to replace according to the experts. Besides that, I want a tire with a little better rim protection for the times when my wife drives my vehicle.

I had the Conti TerrainContact AT on a previous truck and they were pretty solid. It went with the TerrainContact HT on my Ram 1500 and they were the best tires I've ever had on a truck. I put them on the Expedition and I like them even more for this vehicle. You can read the reviews on them on Tire Rack, and I believe they're currently the highest rated HT tire in the mix. Between the two vehicles I have close to 65,000 miles on that tire model, and I'll be ordering another set for the Ram before winter (have just about 51,000 on them now).

All that said, I really had good luck with the Bridgestone Dueler and Michelin Defenders as well. The Contis just do everything a little better.

Yeah, these Generals SUCK. I managed to get all 4 of mine replaced under warranty from the dealer, but the new ones still won't balance. I'm glad to hear good reviews on the Continentals, we have a friend who runs a tire shop and they sell those. I'm just going to bite the bullet and ditch the generals and go with the Continentals. The other option I was considering was the Michelin LTX's.

Got Michelin Defender LTX M/S, cost About 330/tire. Money well spent. ESP for a lot of highway driving.
there are a few other good brands but I never cheap out on tires, only 4 places your truck touches the road.

I’m almost sold on the Michelins. I had the LTX on a 05 Tahoe and they were good.

The dealer put toyos highway on mine at 3.5k mi. The ride is exceptional. For the little amount of snow and ice we had this year it was fine.

I just put a set of Toyo open country HT on. So far so good, will be interesting to see how they last.

I put on a set of these in June/2022 and love them. Improved handling, better gas mileage, heavier-rated (I tow a large boat), and 20k miles in they are wearing great. Would recommend 10/10.

I just got a "used" '22 with 13k on it with Generals. Why are they bad?

My previous Expys had Hankooks and they seemed fine even with the extra aggressive tread.

I haven’t had any issues with mine. Nearly 16k miles. Getting nice even wear, no traction issues, no road noise complaints. Did great in the snow and ice last winter. People have strong opinions but I didn’t experience the flat spots or balancing issues that have given a
Bad taste (understandably).

Could not agree more. These are excellent tires. Would not hesitate to buy them again.

I am running "Cooper Discovery AT 3 4s" on my wife's 2020 Limited Steath 285/45 R22. She loves them on the it and also loved them on the 2012 F120 that it replaced. We live in Anchorage AK and they do very well in snow.

We changed from OE hankooks on our 2018 expedition to pirelli scorpion verde (which I think may be standard on Lincoln?) .. anyway- big difference in ride quality and sound improvement very happy w them
