so long behold since i am not the original owner and the OO was a druggy and his drug of choice was in the gas tank it was taking out by customs. my cousin picked this thing up from the auction like 10 years ago. then sold it to us. he had put in a new tank. long behold it was the 26 gallon tank! no wonder i've been thinking i had been getting crappy gas mileage. everyone i see is getting 11.5+ and me 10. like huh? i have improvements shouldnt i be at least getting the same. well i did the math and since i have the smaller tank i am actually getting 11.5! YAY!!! :):) what a huge difference... NOT! haha but anywho. i would like the extra 4 gallons. exspecialy on long road trips to the desert or to pismo like im planing. with this 26 gallon tank i get 300 to the tank. i know i will get more if i had the 30. about 346 miles. not much but enough for me to not fill up every few miles. so here my question. how much is a new or used tank. ive looked around but not 100% sure and it looks to be about $120. and 2nd. how hard is it to replace a tank. i know i have to drain the tank drop it and reattach everything i need. but how much time should it take. or in walnuts speak how many 12 packs should it take?? :p

Your calculations should be on the gas you have used not the tank size.
Example.
If I put 10 gallons in my tank and it is now full.
Trip meter says i have travelled 150 miles since last fill up.
150/10= 15 miles per gallon

well for the longest time i though i had the 30 gallon tank. but one time i litterly ran out of gas. i pushed her to the gas station. i was going there anyways and i only filled it to about 26.5 gallons. since i top off. i didnt think much of it since it restarted by it self in the intersection. so i figured i was going down hill a little and the tank doesnt like it. so it died. but still. i would like the bigger tank. thats most likely why my fuel gauge is all screwy. the first 1/4 is 100 miles the 2nd 1/4 is another 100 miles and the last half is 100 miles. haha

thats really interesting, i just got a 97 expy on the 9th and I have no earthly clue what tank I have in it, my dad says: "well its a 26 gallon tank , my 03 and my 98 had 26 gallon tanks, thats whats in it" and my friend with a 97 says: "well, I have a 30-gallon tank in mine and its an Eddie Bauer 4x4 like yours so you have a 30-gal in yours"...... I dont know what to believe so ill just run mine out of gas, and top it off! haha

Our models definately have 28 gallon tanks. When I bought my Expedition the original owners still had the window sticker and it listed 28 gallons.

If you only need the extra capacity for long trips, you could always carry a 5 gallon jerry can.
