I'll tell you what I like about the new shifter: because there's no physical connection between the shifter and the tranny, you don't have to move to P when you stop. Just stop the car with the brake pedal and press the Power button to shut off the engine. Voila, the system switches to P magically! I developed this habit after noticing that AS/S kicked the engine off when I stopped the car just to have it immediately restart when selecting P.

Anton Yelchin. His jeep rolled into him and pinned him against a gate, and he died slowly, age 27. Very tragic.
Wouldn't have happened with electronic shift, where it automatically goes into Park when you push the start/stop button to shut the engine off.

I like the rotary dial. Had it on my 2015 RAM 1500. I do not like the GM button thingy. I'd probably buy a Yukon today if it weren't for that. The new Traverse and Tahoe/Suburban will switch to a column shifter. I might try to wait for a 25 Tahoe, but I'm sure it'll be stupid expensive when you include the dealer markups.

I put a vehicle in the gear I need and it goes. Not sure what else you’d need in life. Perhaps some people need training on how things work. I remember some guys were shocked to learn the Expy has a self protect feature to prevent damage from people slamming from drive to reverse while moving, something people have done on old vehicles that tears up transmissions. Wouldn’t surprise me if people had trouble with turning a knob.
I'm real old and these things are a distraction. If ya have that much junk to put on your console I'd respectively suggest a pocket book. Which 69?

When I was young, I wanted to buy a 1970 GTX with the 440 and automatic transmission. It had a black vinyl top, yellow body and the air-grabber hood.
My Dad said no - he was afraid it was too powerful of a car for me to drive.
This dial shifter of what you speak, is it on your side of the vehicle? I have it 20/20 Lincoln with push buttons. The drive button is on the passenger side of the car. Unbelievably I have to reach to the right of Center to put it in to drive. I hate it. My wife's 2013 expedition, King Ranch with every villain whistle they offered so far as I know, is getting old but only has 55,000 miles on it. And most of those were racked up prior to 2016 when we were 25 miles to a cell phone signal. Now she would like a new car but refuses to even drive mine. And I must sympathize as I still don't know how to wash my rear window or manually control my headlamps, and do not understand at all why that vehicle talks to me when I walk out into the garage to do something else. It squeaks creeks and moans. It only gets worse if I actually have the key fob in my pocket. I'm going to go look for a really good old SUV, one madebefore the computers took over.

Don't worry, by the time you are done with your Expedition the Rotary shifter will be gone. Your next one will shift itself because it'll drive itself. Now THAT will get your ******* in a wad!!!!

Don't quote me on this, but I think you can retrofit the fold flat shifter from the F-150 in the Expedition.

I don't own one, but apparently Tesla already removed the physical shifter from their new Model S and X,Don't worry, by the time you are done with your Expedition the Rotary shifter will be gone. Your next one will shift itself because it'll drive itself. Now THAT will get your ******* in a wad!!!!

I’ve got a road test reprint book and the 68 gtx was fastest car that year that wasn’t corvette. They tested it over and over at the strip, hemi and 440. 69 and 70 were same basic car, but lots of new versions of others were faster.

That's absurd, automate that, let's see how many fender benders there are, or worse. let's dumb down everything so much that we can further escalate human laziness... sorry... it's nothing but a cost control thing, and the social media giant will just market it as innovation.

Then, I ended up buying a 1969 Camaro SS/RS convertible with the Z-11 Pace Car Edition replica package. After that I began buying Corvettes and owned them for about 45 years.
When I got the Camaro, I had close friends with a 1969 Roadrunner and a 1970 Super Bee (purple with a white interior with the pistol-grip shifter). The Super Bee was a high school graduation present.
My parents gave me an electric typewriter for graduation - which I used in college.
Just this week someone was killed because an owner of a 23 expy reversed into a strip mall. Dnt know if it's shifter related. I had a couple hiccups with mine, but I liked it mostly. I much prefer lincolns button solution though, barely any hiccups, easy to use, and u always know what gate ur in. And it's not annoying like other button shifters either.
I saw someone talk about the reach to hit the button. Yea there's a reach, but if your sitting up because you just sat down, it's not an annoyance. It's only an issue if you were already sitting and need to put it in gear. Mu wife has never complained, she loves the nav so much, she's the reason I still have it.
