Update on my 2021 FX4 Expedition.
After getting the replacement CDF ring my trans was still popping out of gear on the freeway. Has 32,000 miles. Dealer has ordered a new trans to put in! I asked if it’s the same ****** trans that is in there and he told me “well your trans is defective” no shit! Along with a lot of other peoples Expeditions and F 150s! He really couldn’t give me an answer. We’ll see!?!? Keep ya posted.

So on mine, it was the 35 dollar plate that costs 1100 to replace in labor. There is a tsb for it and it totally solved my neutral out issue in my 2019.

So…they’ve replace my trans but I still waiting to get my roof repaired. I’ve asked three different ways if the trans issue is fixed. They won’t tell me. They can’t tell me if the issue is fixed or not! Don’t buy a Ford Truck or Expedition! I understand all the new trucks and suvs have issues.

My 2023 was built in August '23 so I hope I have the new design. Is there any way to tell via VIN or any other info as to which tranny was installed?

Ford mechanic said all vehicles built after Dec 23rd, 2022 have the newly designed CDF drum. Ford even redesigned the transmission outer shell in August 2024, with anodized & higher grade aluminum. Some 2024 may have it. Here is the video:

So…talking to the manager I asked “so…does putting in the the transmission fix the issue?” Couldn’t answer. It is really frustrating as I expect “yeah…this is the fix!” They won’t admit it and it’s like talking to a politician. He said “well…it’s technology…it’s something we have to deal with.” I thought technology is supposed to further the pursuit of society…not bring it down. What he’s telling me is “this vehicle is going to have problems no matter what we do”
It is inexcusable to make vehicles in this manner or except that this is the way it is.

Video is good thanks man! So yeah…pretty much have come to the conclusion that Ford and GMC are ok with ripping off costumers with building a POS vehicle. Talked to the guy at Inglewood Transmission and he said their trans replacement doesn’t have problems so after 60,000 miles if I have an issue with the trans I’ll take it to them….even though I have a extended warranty. It’s worth it to me (6,500) to have something right than to mess around with the idiots at Ford!

Here’s my take. I’ve had a zillion cars. Well, it seems that way. I’ve never had any shift as poorly as my 2019 Expedition did (including my ‘18), both with the original trans, the rebuild, AND the factory crate transmission they put in last. I’ve never had anything I could feel a clunky 5—>3 downshift in, including the 2022 Suburban we had 2-cars ago that has a very similar/shared transmission with the Expedition. I’m not convinced my trans issues were solved, and I still was experiencing cam phaser/boost/timing issues that was another can of worms, so we sold it.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the crate trans they put in mine this summer had all the new parts in it. Also giving serious thought to getting an MPT tune just to get the (from what I hear) better trans programming.

Well…new trans seems to be the fix! No popping out of gear on the freeway…no hard shifting. It’s like a whole different trans! I pray this has died the problem because I really don’t want another hassle.
