With a 2023, you have a very different head unit - yours is Sync 4, versus the 2020s with Sync 3. I would be surprised if they behaved exactly alike or had all the same settings.

In the Sync 3, volume defaults to a set number on start up regardless of the volume you left it at last time. There maybe a setting for that now that you mention it though. Will check later.
The default volume setting in Sync3 is the volume setting at startup is the same as the volume setting at shut off, whether you shut the car off, then on, or shut the radio off, then on. If it's high when you shut off the vehicle, it will be high when you start the vehicle. Earlier firmware versions may have acted differently, but it's been that way prior to 3.4.23188. I've had my Platinum since 2023 and it's always been that way. I just don't remember what firmware version I had when purchased, (may have been 3.0 or 3.1), and have updated 4 times since.

I just re-enabled SiriusXM via Forscan on mine today. I’m hoping this workaround is successful.

The trick I'm using now is to set it to Sirius, and then choose channel 0 - the radio ID channel where it shows your radio serial number. It has no audio.

I've since realized I was thinking of my other vehicle - an Audi - which my wife now mostly drives. It has a volume reset feature on start up so you aren't assaulted at 100 decibels because the previous driver was moshing when they ended their drive.

@Fizzy, I just wanted to thank you again! This has been annoying me for years and you solved it for me. I get in and the radio stays silent unless I was already playing something on my iPhone and I plug it in.

Does anyone know how to make it so the radio doesn’t start playing audio when you start the vehicle? For me it does it sometimes and not others. And I can’t figure out the pattern to repeat it every time.

I just want the vehicle to be silent when it’s started.
My radio does what the last setting was. If it's on FM and the volume is up and I shut the vehicle off, when I turn it on it is the same settings. If I shut the unit down and turn off the vehicle, when I start it, it is off. Android auto and apple car play may have their own preferences that may keep the radio on and start android auto or apple car play.

Welcome! It's bliss.

Also, if you don't have one already, you can add wireless CarPlay for about $50.
