My Gen 1 Expy has a plastic vent that is concealed inside the upper door jam of the rear hatch. It is designed to equalize air in the vehicle. If it comes loose, water gets into the channels above the rear section, and in my case dripped down from the upper trim to the side panel rear drivers side.

Does it have a sun roof? It could be the drain has come disconnected. There are four of them, two at the front and two at the rear.

Two days after I bought my truck we had a huge rain storm and my son found water in the cup holder in the third row and the headliner was soaked. Turns out when the truck was rolling down the assembly line the drivers rear drain hose got pinched under a roof support and disconnected from the sunroof. Dealer fixed it right up and no problems since.
