Anyone with a 2022-2024 expedition (Platinum), behind the screen on top of the dashboard, under the rubber mat, do you have a black piece of tape covering a gap?

It is a pretty common fix from Ford Techs to fix a squeak/rub sound that can happen between those 2 panels. The rubber mat completely covers it, so no issues. That tape is used ALL Over the place behind the door panels, interior panels, engine bay, and all over the vehicle. It will cause zero issues.

You aren't wrong. Another excellent reason to leave it alone.
Personally, if it were mine, I'd take it in for a warranty claim........
too much tape on top, a glairing gap on bottom that tape doesn't cover, and to top it all off.....it's applied crooked !!!!!
May indicate problems in the future as the two halves of the truck may not be lined up properly.........

Actually, I could argue the tape is straight. It is lined up with the bottom edge. And that is the one that is straight left to right. The plastic piece gap actually goes slightly diagonal. So it is a excellent attempt at hold both sides together and marking the center line.

They could even charge him $500 for the "Racing Stripe" addition...

You could have just said tape, no need for rudeness.
Flocking Tape:

A soft, adhesive-backed tape with a velvet-like surface, made by applying short fibers (flock) to a backing, primarily used in automotive and industrial settings to stop squeaks, rattles, and abrasion (BSR/NVH) between moving parts, providing a smooth, non-marring, and sound-dampening layer. It acts as a protective cushion, allowing parts like dashboards, consoles, or window seals to glide smoothly while absorbing vibrations and creating a finished look.

The explanation just made it worse with its velvet like surface, seal to glide smoothly and absorbing vibrations...
You should know better

Ok quick change of subject - how about this - compare this grommet / boot to one on your expeditions - I am getting bad sound intrusion into my cabin from the engine and i feel I have poorly seated grommet allowing the hpfp tick into the cabin.

If you haven't already please create a new Thread for this. I do have a question though, are you just going through your new vehicle looking for problems that aren't really problems?

Haha sorry, no. I have been trying to find the source of the ticking since the dealership won’t help. I took off the rubber piece during that search to find the black tape so was curious about it. The issue I’ve had all along is sound intrusion into the cabin and a popping noise in dash on acceleration penetration and speed bumps. Again I just found the black tape during that search.

If your Expy is still under warranty DO NOT REMOVE TAPE !!!!!!! Ford will find some way to void the remaining warranty.......:emotions122:

Funny that you should mention this tape. I noticed it on my '23 and wondered why it was there. Then I learned of the recall on some 2022s to replace the dash-top rubber mat with a new design that has a ridge all around the edges.

It seems that folks have spilled coffee on the un-ridged mats which found its way through an untapped seam and into the radio. There the coffee shorts out the radio causing its malfunction. The replacement mats contain the spill.

I'm wondering if the tape is the running design change made to the late 22's, and the 23's and 24's.

My '19 doesn't have the tape, so it could mean that mine is an early "tape/crack delete", or maybe it was assembled with more care and attention to detail than your later years.....not having to be taped together......
At least I don't have to worrying about what would happen if the tape ever became "unsticky" thus rendering my Expy undriveable......:rockit:

When your model was built, the tape was probably on national back-order and built without it. You may have received a $50 credit?
