My '19 doesn't have the tape, so it could mean that mine is an early "tape/crack delete", or maybe it was assembled with more care and attention to detail than your later years.....not having to be taped together......
At least I don't have to worrying about what would happen if the tape ever became "unsticky" thus rendering my Expy undriveable......:rockit:
I doubt your coffee would spill out of your "sippy cup"!! lol

Funny that you should mention this tape. I noticed it on my '23 and wondered why it was there. Then I learned of the recall on some 2022s to replace the dash-top rubber mat with a new design that has a ridge all around the edges.

It seems that folks have spilled coffee on the un-ridged mats which found its way through an untapped seam and into the radio. There the coffee shorts out the radio causing its malfunction. The replacement mats contain the spill.

I'm wondering if the tape is the running design change made to the late 22's, and the 23's and 24's.
Definitely could be! I know Techs were using it to prevent a vibration sound in the area too. SO it is probably a win/win, and such a simple fix for a weird problem. Why would you sit your coffee there. People are weird.

This thread is amazing, thanks all!

Interesting point! They performed the recall on our 22. Knowing what they were trying to fix, I was afraid they were going to place the mat with some ugly bowl looking thing (I have seen the new design now, and don't like it). We got it back and nothing appeared to have changed. I wonder if ours had the tape added..?? Will check it out. Regardless, this is not one I'm losing sleep over.
