I recently took my wife's 23 expedition to local Ford for oil change and i could smell coolant, wasn't over heating but I paid for the warranty so I figured let them deal with it. Turns out the block had some kind of factory defect and coolant was bleeding thru the block into the valley of the engine. Warranty paid for a new bottom end Assembly. I asked them to replace the timing components while they're there and I'll pay if warranty doesn't. They didn't. Said the chain and tensioners were in spec. They had the car for over 3 weeks and I just learned today that they just added oil started it and gave it back to us. Im concerned because any engine I've ever built I've always started on conventional oil and drained it after getting up to operating temp and then I usually drain oil at least one more time after 50 or 100 miles because of the Assembly lube and any metals that come off from the break in. If it eats the bearings because they didn't do this then I have to pay for it. Warranty only covers it if its a factory defect. Am I worried for nothing or should I just change the oil myself? Its already too late for the timing.
