I had my first wheel bearing seize about an hour ago. Drove 10 feet forward and sounded like a train screeching on train tracks. I only pulled 5 feet back to get out of neighbors driveway. Front left. First noises the truck has ever made since I've owned it. Well it chirped on the highway today and I knew it was a bearing, but I had no idea it would go that fast. I was on the road in city traffic for 4-5 hours, then after an hour of cooling, it's toast. At least I have a legit place to start addressing the front end play.
I don't have time to go the rock auto route so I'll be at oreilys when they open in the morning. Anyone have relevant experience with the quality of oreillys hub assemblies, precision, master pro? Any tips for doing this job parked on the street, drivers side? Worst case for getting it out of the knuckle under the circumstances?
I have to give it a shot if it's gonna get towed anyone, right? I've done bearings in the past, but on cars half this size, and never on the street. Grateful for anyone who feels like giving late night advice. I'll shoot pics and post on the thread.
An hour ago I was just heading to bed with my wife, both kids at grandmas, and to sleep in on my day off tomorrow.
