High All, new to the forum but I do alot of work on my vehicles. I have an annoying problem with the rear AC on my 03 Expy. It has started cklicking...loudly when the rear AC temp is set to cool and clicks more softly to none when the temp is warmed up. Has anyone else experienced this problem. It occurs when the AC is on and when it is off. I have looked way back in this forum for any similar problems and found one from quite awhile ago with no response. Thought I would try it again and see if this proble is becoming more common. Your help is appreciated Thanks!

That sounds kind of like the problem I've been having, except I'm thinking mine has to do with the rear heat instead of the a/c. Where exactly is the noise comming from on yours?

I agree Smoothride, it is probably more associated with the Heat. It is coming from the passenger rear side of the vehicle. It is back where the rear AC system is located. The clicking will get really soft if you adjust the temp control correctly ( whatever that happens to be that day) and will get really loud when it is not adjusted correctly! I was told that yu could pop offf the top of the rear passwenger side panel and there were two white heater actuators back there. If you unplug one of the acutators and the noise quits you ahve a bad actuator. I am going to try this remedy this weekend.

Let me know how that works out, I might try it too so I don't have to spend money on a diagnostic at the dealership.

Clicking Rear A/C

I think I know exactly what you're talking about. It happened to my '03 Expedition... three times. I first noticed it when I went to switch the rear A/C from panel to floor. A clicking started from the cargo area. The blend door was stuck. The dealer replaced it under warranty. 5,000 miles later, the same blend door went out again. Dealer replaced it. The third time, I went to move the temperature switch from cool to neutral. The clicking started again. Only this time, I was 1,000 miles past the factory warranty. The dealer determined that it was the temperature blend door this time and replaced it under their "good faith" warranty program. I lucked out because they said the repair would have been $80 for the blend door and $420 for the labor (they have to disconnect cooling lines, remove the rear A/C system from the truck and take it apart to reach the blend and vent doors.

If you hear the clicking when either the blend door or vent door is in a certain setting or position, but stops when you turn the dial or control another way, you can be fairly certain that the problem is a faulty blend or vent door.
